They made an ear that had a microphone attached, so when a person spoke into
the microphone, their voice was amplified through a hidden speaker. As
visitors spoke into the ear, they could see how many decibels they were
generating indicated on a decimeter attached to the display. |
Our Class did a project for the "Brain's the Thing" meeting
at the Omniplex in April, 2002. Students made displays that
showed how the five senses work. They made a hand with touch sensors
so when a finger was pressed, a microcomputer told which finger was pressed.
They made a brain, that had switches that controlled colored lights attached
to the brain, so when a function of the brain's senses like "sight" was
pressed, that part of the brain lit up. They made an eye and nose.
The eye had a video camera that showed people on television as they visited
our display. They made a tongue and lips so when a sweet, sour
or bitter flavor bud was pressed on the tongue, a light would come on. |
Our school won first place in the contest, a grant of $300,
and a pizza party for our class and another class in our building who also
participated. At the party we showed a Power Point presentation of
pictures taken at the Omniplex and at the assembly we had when our class was
presented the prize. |
We want to thank the Oklahoma University Health Science
center for the opportunity to participate in this program. |
