ESTABLISHED IN 1983 by the Rev. Fr. Silvestre Sancho, O.P., then Rector Magnificus, combining Physics and Mathematics under one department due to the close interdependence of the two disciplines prompted the College of Science to offer a course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science, major in Physics and Mathematics.

This program was offered from 1952 until 1968 when it was observed that the interest and aptitude of the science students did not always go for both disciplines. It was decided that Physics and Mathematics be offered as separate fields of specialization for the Bachelor of Science degree in the College.

In keeping with its commitment to respond to the needs of the times, the Department has undergone changes in priorities and thrusts. In 1984, with the increased demand for manpower trained in computer/information technology, the College developed the program for the BS Math major in Computer Science. With the encouraging feedback from graduates under the program, and with suggestions from the field, the Department will do everything possible to make future graduates even better prepared to take up the challenges of the 21st century.

The Department attends to the math, physics, and computer courses requirement of the different degree programs of the College, and offers degrees for BS Mathematics, major in Computer Science or Actuarial Science.
