Is this Me

(on the churches' change of doctrine on apartheid)

All the arguments in the Book
Would not persuade me to look
For any way out of the rot
Which will be my children's lot.

I do not expect, nor am I concerned,
To keep for them that which I earned
Or that for which my father fought
And many died for the dream they sought.

All I want is to live in peace
The remaining years of life's lease;
To soften the hardships I endure
Is the only goal that I procure.

And when I shed this body of clay
And float away that glorious day,
Let no thought for those left behind
Prevent me from my crown to find.

There, in from of God I shall stand,
And show Him, so He'll understand,
The new way to learn and look
At the words in His own Book.

And it is sincerely my belief
He will give a sigh of relief
To learn, at last, that most pages
Do not apply to modern ages.

Jozini, 1984.
