To You O Queen ...

(when my wife lost her Holland citizenship)

To you, O Queen of the Netherlands,
A kingdom, proud in times past,
Which stretched over far off lands,
And people said it would forever last.
But alas, it now lies in desolation,
Morals gone and ripe with integration.

To you O Queen of but a poor shadow
Of what it was in days gone by,
To you O Queen of a country shallow,
Ruled by people who cheat and lie,
To you I bring my wife's request
Which she believes it's for the best.

In Netherlands was she born and bred,
Raised to believe that the love for the land
Where her people live, work and tread,
Should always be kept in mind and hand.
In the depth of her heart, her soul, her all,
The pride of her ancestors she'll always recall.

Yet, she lost her beloved nationality
Thanks to today's ungrateful law
Brought  to be by the bureaucracy
In her land, which, like a saw,
Cuts away without mercy or understanding
Those who are most devote and upstanding.

She took nationality of a land beyond the sea,
Of a people proud, determined to preserve
The race you also belong to perpetually free.
Ideals great, noble, which truly deserve
Applause from those true to their genes,
Worthy of the best of Shakespeare's scenes.

Rhodesia was this land beyond the sea;
The name is familiar to you, no doubt,
For your Government approved with glee
Any attempt to destroy this people stout,
And in your hands lies the blood
Of innocent children to death clubbed.

Now, according to your Laws and Regulations
At your feet must she come and bring her plea
For what is rightfully hers by blood relations
And birthright. I personally cannot see
Why you're involved, for you're only a puppet
In the hands of an unpatriotic Cabinet.

Pretoria, 1981.
