The Past

It's said, "The Past is History",
And this is too true in human eyes;
Time is a continuum, an infinity,
Where everything is born, lives, and dies.

From the amoeba, a simple cell,
To the most varied and complex form
And all that in the Universe dwell
To this eternal dictum conform.

The Greeks believed that a God, one day,
Put all the Universe in motion,
But watched the process of decay
With neither concern nor emotion.

So debates and theories abound
To prove whether was design or chance,
With complex equations thrown around,
Each for their own beliefs to enhance.

Science maintains that the Earth is old
While the faithful argue that it's not,
And when we probe into what we're told
It seems "Faith" is all each camp has got.

To accept that God created all
Requires a faith of great magnitude,
And then that He allowed man to fall
Rises the question of His attitude.

Yet, to believe that an explosion
In matter of infinity density
Brought to life all we see in motion
Is well beyond credibility.

And man, who tries so hard to explain
The origin of all he can see
Will forever in darkness remain
On the reason why he came to be.
