There comes a time in every Chrono Trigger player's life when he or she becomes extremely frustrated with Magus as a boss (especially when playing New Game). Well, this can hopefully come as some help. First off, Magus has a whopping total of 6666 HP which is quite a lot at the time. (Something to think about: When you get Magus later in the game, what's the highest his HP can be? 999! Yeah! Where'd the other 5667 go? ^_^) Now, the game would be simple if you could just, say, beat those six-thousand-and-sixty-six (which, by the way, closely resembles the number of the devil) hit points out of him with simple physical attacks. But no, this is a Squaresoft game we're talking about. Nope, this guy needs magic thrown at him. The only real effective physical attack is Frog's, being aptly equipped with the Masamune and Hero's Medal, which lowers Magus' defense. Anyway, back to pumping him full of magic. This, again, is easier said than done. This punk likes to engage in "barrier changes", meaning that only a certain type of magic works best on him. Therefore, having a team such as Crono, Frog and Lucca (Lightning, Water and Fire) is optimal. And, to add insult to injury, when he changes shields, he'll use either Ice 2, Lightning 2, Dark Bomb (like you have someone able to do Shadow magic, right? He's the only one, despite what Spekkio says about Robo!) or Fire 2, depending on what his weakness is. After a while Magus "will risk using a spell", and once it says this, cover your hineys because Dark Matter is on its way, Magus' strongest attack. Once using Dark Matter, he'll stop his barrier changes and he's a big pussycat from there on out. Once again, I say, beating him is easier said than done, so two words for you: level up.
EXCLUSIVE PROTECTION:
RavenArmor -- Armor -- Defense 76
Gloom Cape -- Armor -- Defense 84
Doom Helm -- Helmet -- Defense 29
Gloom Helm -- Helmet -- Defense 42
WORD OF THE WISE:
Magus' seemingly best accessory is the Amulet, which was given to him by Schala when he was young. Now, surprisingly enough, the Gloom Helm does what the Amulet does: protects his status. Now, this is just my opinion, but Magus, whose expertise is magic, mind you, should have an accesory dealing with magic like the Magic Seal or the Gold Stud. Most effective is the Gold Stud because it slashes the amount of MP for each spell by 75%! Imagine performing Dark Matter for only 5 MP. Think about it.
