Besides, Bottle Gourd, Ladyfinger, Carrot, Cauliflower, Onion, Peas, Tomato and Garlic are also grown in the district in minor quantities.

Forests

a)                 
Location of Forests and Area Under Afforestation.
An area of 95,654 acres is under forest in the district. There is also linear plantation of 200 Km alongside the roads/rails/canals in the district. Trees grown in the area are kau, phalai, kikar, sanatha, popular and shisham

Poultry Population

As per Punjab Development Statistics, 2000, there are 320 broiler and 45 layer poultry farms in the district having rearing capacity of 1689 and 157 thousand birds respectively.

As per Punjab Development Statistics, 2000, 190600 animals were slaughtered in recognized / un-recognized slaughter houses in the district during the year 1999-2000, which is a fair estimate of the availability of hides and skins in the district.The availability of slaughter house by - products is estimated as under :-

Blood  620 M.Tons
Bones  682 M.Tons
Tallow  841 M.Tons

 

Production of Wool
The sheep population of 46 thousand heads in the district is expected to yield about 46 M. Tons of wool annually

 
ORES AND MINERALS RESERVES

 Jhelum has very rich reserves of mineral resources. Minerals like Rock Salt, Brine, Gypsum, Coal, Bentonite and Silica Sand are being exploited commercially by private and public sector agencies in the district. Khewra Salt mine is the biggest in Pakistan and is located in district Jhelum.
