The USA is listed together with countries which are well known for human right violation. The majority of European, North and South American countries (over 105 countries) abolished the death penalty.
The USA most frequently uses this punishment as well as countries like Iraq, Iran and China. In the USA the capital punishment is enforced randomly. Politics, quality of defense and jurisdiction where the crime was committed are capital in this case, further more then the facts which concern the crime itself.
The capital punishment is a lethal lottery: for the 22000 murders committed each year, 300 people are sentenced to death. The USA is unable to prevent innocent people from execution.
Recent studies demonstrated that during last century at least 400 innocent people were sentenced for crimes they never committed, 24 were eventually executed.
There is no remedy to the execution of an innocent person. Since the death penalty has been reintroduced, 96 people have been proved innocent. Some times just few minutes before execution. Source:
