- Visit my new blog!
I've moved on a bit (this content will stick around) from updating this web site (blame Yahoo's removal of free FTP a couple of years ago) and have just replaced with a blog here, launched yesterday. It's being hosted for free thanks to Blogger but they don't allow me to directly host files, so I have added a Blog Resources page here that will be referenced by my blog. First content's already up on the blog, so go check it out! Feel free to leave comments or e-mail me there too.

- Bug fix for RSSTicker
Yesterday's version was a bit of a false start - the initial settings
were wrong for anyone who wasn't me. Sorry about that! A fixed version is now available for download.
1 August 2004
- Introducing RSSTicker!
Here's a new Tigger plug-in for you
to use. This one (
as promised here)
allows you to put RSS
feeds into the ticker. Thus, I called
it RSSTicker. Let me know
what you think.
- Improvements made to
AutoSizer
I also made some
improvements to AutoSizer
over the last 2 weeks. It's not perfect, but it does the job, and it
is now more customisable, allowing for hiding and custom positioning of
the ticker. I recommend
you download version
1.2 of Tigger to make full use of the improvements.
- I've also released some minor bugfixes to ScriptTickerPro and WebcamTicker.
- My own RSS feed!
In honour of the release
of RSSTicker, I've uploaded (and will update) an RSS
feed here.
It has the current versions of my Tigger plugins (and any new software
I develop) in it.
You'll need RSSTicker or
other RSS reader to
view it.

- Updates to Tigger and
Tigger plugins
I've been working throughout the week on improving Tigger and my plugins
for it. Tigger is a
great new application for Mac OS X Panther (sorry Jaguar users!) by Andreas Mayer. This weekend he has
updated it to version 1.2, which I strongly recommend upgrading to, and
accordingly I have released updated versions of my plugins which are
known to be compatible.
Firstly, ScriptTicker is now obsolete, being replaced entirely by ScriptTickerPro, which is
now at version 1.2.1, and WebcamTicker
is also now version 1.2.1.
Footnote: I just added a new page with all of the ticker information here.
My plugins are free, but if you like what Andreas is doing, please register your copy of
Tigger.
- Added AutoSizer (beta)
plugin for Tigger
Here is a
version of my plugin which automatically resizes your ticker bar to
suit the free space in your menu bar. Please read the instructions
carefully for this one.

- My Tigger plugins launched
Using the excellent program Tigger by Andreas
Mayer, I've been busy writing some plugins (my first Cocoa programs) to
extend its functionality. Do try Tigger and register it, then
try adding some of my plugins. So far there are 3 plugins available to
download - ScriptTicker
(run one AppleScript), ScriptTickerPro
(run multiple AppleScripts with more options) and WebcamTicker (put a
webcam/weather map/logo in your ticker bar). More information and
updates to come, let me know what you
think.

- HP launches 39g+ website
Thanks to a poster on comp.sys.hp48, I notice that HP
have put some web pages up here for
the newly released (already available in some territories -- ignore the
website) HP39G+
graphing calculator.
Also noticed that they have uploaded a Frequently
Asked Questions (PDF file, 1.4MB) document on this
page which is very handy for new users to the calculators. I highly
recommend downloading the PDF file.
Note: The tips also
apply to the existing 39g and 40g models.
14 February 2004
- NoteMaker named "Program
of the Month"
Thanks to Michaël De Coninck, who named NoteMaker his "Program of the Month" for
February in his newsletter.
It's nice to see that people are using some of my programs. The
newsletter is available in PDF format at the HP Home View
Help page.
- Progress Update
In celebration of the above, here's an update on work
so far. I'm updating the ADK to support (modern) computers and
calculators, part of this is NoteMaker
and HPGComm for Unix/Mac OS X which are
already available for download. The rest is the ADK interface, and a
launcher program, which are in development. The launcher is already
done, and the current features of my ADK nearly match the old one
(except additionally supporting the new calculators), so hopefully not
long now. Here's a picture of the new launcher, running on Mac OS X:
As you can see, I'm not a
graphic designer from the icons I whipped up :-)
23 December 2003
- CommUI and matching update
to HPGComm released
I have released a graphical version allowing you to
use HPGComm by point-and-clicking. The user interface is called CommUI
and requires Java 1.4 (HPGComm can still be used on the command line). Get it here.
18 December 2003
- Minor fix to HPGComm
This is an unimportant update - the program now displays its version
number, and the license was missing from a couple of the files. Download it here.
17 December 2003
- Updated version HPGComm
(already!)
You see, I'm on holidays at the moment... so I have a
little too much spare time on my hands. I have updated HPGComm to
version 1.1 today. This version now supports screen captures, so apart
from a user interface its a pretty good port of HPGComm. The HPGComm Unix/Mac OS X page has more.
16 December 2003
- Mac and Linux version of
HPGComm
Thanks to desperation and HPGComm being open source, I've
managed to get a very basic port of HPGComm for the HP38/39/40G
calculators working here. Note that Mac OS X users require a USB-Serial
adaptor in addition to the standard calculator connectivity cable.
The Windows version of HPGComm is available here (and here and here).
23 November 2003
- Exams are over
Exams are
finished for another year here, so I have more time to spend on this
site. I'm not going to promise anything though. Mac fans are very
welcome here - I've been using my Mac for a while now and it's great
(so much so that I rarely use Windows - sorry guys!)
- New NoteMaker release
NoteMaker version 0.60
Preview Release has been uploaded today. As such, and since I trust
this release much more than the last, I have added NoteMaker to the
button bar above. I hope you find this useful.
In brief, NoteMaker is a text editor for files generated by the
HP38/39/40G calculators which runs on all Java 1.4 computers
(Windows/Mac/Linux).
17 July 2003
- I'm still here!
Just an update about not having any updates - I'm still here and
working on things, including the ADK project (check back soon!). I also
have a Mac now (running OS X 10.2.6) and con confirm that many of my
programs run as is on it, once you have the Java 1.4.1 update installed.
17 March 2003
- Java 1.4.1 for Mac OS X has been released!
Apple have released a Java 1.4.1-compatible runtime for Mac OS X
versions 10.2.3 or later. Check out Apple's Java site for more
information.
This means all you lucky Mac OS X users can now try my Java programs. Please let
me know if there are any compatibility issues.
26 February 2003
- Ticking Clock library released by Jordi Hidalgo
I think this is the single most important library in the history of the
HP38/39/40G series! It provides on the HOME view a real-time
self-updating clock which supports both North American and European
date formats and both 12 and 24 hour time. Forget about my clocks, this
is the best! Get it from the HP Home
View. (Thanks to HP Home View for the news.) If you need help
setting the date and time on your calculator, download Setup Date and Time or read the
instructions here.
