THE CABLE GUY
1996 **** 96 mins.
There are some people who hate this film. There are some who say it's very uneven.
Personally, I love this film about a guy who's been kicked out by his girlfriend and has to get a new apartment. When the Cable Guy (Jim Carrey) shows up, the Cable Guy has more than a simple cable hook-up on his mind. As he tries to befriend Steven (Matthew Broderick), things begin to descend into madness as Steven becomes aware of the Cable Guy's not-so-honest past and present. The only way the film may seem uneven is that parts of it are comical while parts are a bit sinister. That that's the whole point of black comedy.
Granted, this film is, definitely, not five star worthy, but it is still a fun film filled with great humour and fun moments, and is a film that I will always love no matter what anyone else says about it.
Rated PG-13 for dark thematic elements and crude humour.
