How to Get to Mangalore?

For decades, the only major industries are the Iron-ore export unit of Kudremukh Iron-Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) and the fertiliser unit of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers (MCF), presently part of the Vijay Mallya UB Group.
1996, a year of  two major units  which went on-stream which  changed the face and pace of
Industrialisation here. They were Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a joint venture of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and the Aditya Birla Group of Industries in the Petroleum and Petrochemical sector, and the leather and dye intermediates plant ofBASF, the German multinational, in the Chemicals sector.

There are a number of Small-scale Industries in the region. They are represented by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the apex body for over 1300 firms. Services provided by these firms include Ship Surveyors, Ship-chandling, Clearing and Forwarding, Commission Agency, etc. These firms mainly manufacture and export ready-to-eat foods, supari, beedis, cashew-based products, garments, fish nets, automobile springs, plywood and the distinctive clay roofing tiles called  Mangalore Tiles, etc.

M.C.F (MANGALORE CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS)
This  Chemical Factory is situated on the National Highway NH 17(Mangalore-Udupi-Mumbai). It is spread on vast acres of green land close to the sea. The factory manufactures different kinds of chemical fertilizers like Urea, Ammonia etc. Recently this factory was taken over by the UB group, Mr. Vijay Mallya is the Managing Director of MCF at present.

M.R.P.L (MANGALORE REFINERY AND PETROCHEMICALS LTD)
This is situated in a place called........................., just few kms from M.C.F. This is a recent project development in Mangalore. It manufactures petrochemicals and by-products of petroleum. MRPL has given employment to hundreds of Mangaloreans.

KUDREMUKH IRON ORE
This factory is  also situated on the National Highway NH 17 opposite to M.C.F. The crude iron ore is transported by  underground pipe line  from Kudremukh, 60 kms from Mangalore.

CANARA SPRINGS
This is situated in the Mangalore industrial town, Baikampady. Canara Springs manufactures steel springs for trucks and other automobiles.
