Coach's Comments
2002 Titans

    4/29/02 - Glenwood
Well this one was legit, no excuses, no we should have. We won out right tonight as Glenwood came to town. We played what appears to be our typical first half tonight and we have to say they won that one. We lost the count on 50/50 balls, we didn't communicate, and they had us running everywhere. They scored first in the game and we found ourselves down early. With 1:23 left in the half Jesse Smith does his flip throw and sends Jimmy Johnston off to the races. Jimmy beats the defender one on one and comes in from the left side to drop it in the goal. Tied 1-1 at the half but were not happy. It was time for a little chewing again tonight. I don't know if we were still at Prom or where we were but our head was not in the game. I always tell the boys that this is Titan Field and it bleeds blue. Well after the first half there was a lot of blue blood everywhere. We were getting beat up and doing nothing about it. We need to do three things and you can put this game in the W column, or you can walk away and give to them right now. The three things are simple and the same every game, win the 50/50, communicate, and use the corners. Well they listened again parently because the second half was all Titans and we handed Glenwood their second loss for the season, both to the Titans. If we could ever put two halves together I gotta think we would be dangerous. Just over 7 minutes into the second half a foul was called and we set up Red Sea. Daniel Knigge took the shot and it lifted just over the outstretched hands of the keeper. They answered back and tied it back up at 2-2. With 18 minutes left in the game Jesse Smith got his second assist and Daniel Knigge got his second goal. That went unanswered and with 14 minutes left in the game Jesse picked up his third assist as Jimmy Johnston picked up his second goal. This put us up 4-2 with 14 minutes left. We had three goals off of set pieces tonight, that really good.It was a very physical game tinight as Luke Thomson would tell you. He got kicked in the second and sat out the rest of the game. Justin Tools had 13 saves tonight and played pretty solid in the goal. Ross Shepard gave a great all out effort tonight, and Josh Grosvner stepped up and was the difference in the middle. What can you say about Jesse Smith. Great effort tonight and 3 assists, super job. We had some great help from the bench tonight and they were ready to play. Doug Juniror stepped in when Jimmy Johnston got a yellow card and played his heart out up front. Austin Croushorn and Andy Himes stepped in during the second half and filled the position very well. This was a big win for us tonight and we are happy to put the notch in the W column. One game at a time and now we start to focus on the next tough one ahead of us. Thursday we travel to Denison. Like Glenwood they will be looking to avenge the loss early in the season that we dropped on them at our house. Thursday we travel to their house and it is always tough up there. We will focus on getting them the next two nights at practice.

JV played a lot better tonight. It was 5-0 Glenwood, the last time we played them. Tonight it was 0-1. Over all we have improved and the boys are starting to play with some confidence. We moved some of the freshmen varisty guys down tonight to see if could finish a little better then we have. It didn't work on the goal side but we did have a very tough defense out there. One simple goal got by Bruce P. and that was all they needed. We started Scott Versch tonight in goal because Bruce Pomerleau was injured during warm ups. Scott played very well and gave up no goals considering he just came back from a 103 temperature and has been sick. Ben Edwards played a very solid Sweeper along with Dan Black. Dan was back for the first time after his concusion last week. He played well. JV gave up 4 goals last time against Denison. I believe that we can turn that around and manage to pick up the second win for our fighting JV squad. Check back on Friday.
