Took 3 weeks of searching and
where do I find the elusive pic of Mark at the Walk for Autism? The
National Enquirer! Huh?
Summer started semi-officially
in San Fran a couple weeks ago with the street festivals going on the weekends.
But its not summer til traffic get snared by one of the biggest block parties
around - SF Pride this weekend. NYC
and Toronto are also this weekend with still more going into July. Look
to see if there's a Pride
fest near you! Besides being lots of fun, you can show your support
(which is sorely lacking from our president!?) to the people in
your community.
Some news items related to Charlie
from USA Today - which also explored
the remake fascination, and some tidbits I found on the internet (May 16)
. Looks like the Oct 25th date is firm (always subject to change though).
Also read a more positive review of Charlie on usenet (the person
had gone to the Philly screening AICN reported a while back) saying the
acting was great and so was the camerawork by Demme. In the cut the person
saw, it looked more like the films of yesteryear (ie no cookie cutter plots)
and may be too slow moving for the teenage market. Don't shoot the messenger,
its one person's opinion.

The pattern continues with the
Hollywood
Reporter reporting Mos Def and Franky G. are set to star in The
Italian Job!
News from the Boards (via US
Weekly) that Mark just hung out in LA with some pals for his B-Day. Also
word he just signed autographs at the Walk for Autism. If anyone saw different,
drop me an email or post over
at MW.com.
Slightly OT, Dark Horizons has
the new poster for
Donnie's new film, Dreamcatcher up.
And even more OT, I got myself
tickets to the Goo Goo Dolls at
the Concord (CA) Pavilion! The Goos are cool, but its Third
Eye Blind I'm really interested in!
06-15
More casting for TIJ, Jason
Statham (of Guy Ritchie's Snatch & Lock, Stock and Two Smoking
Barrels) is said to have signed according
to Variety. Also looks like Charlize has signed on. Anyone else sensing
a pattern? With news leaking to HR & Variety in turns?
Added a recent
interview with David O. Russell, small mentions of 3 Kings.
06-12
Edward Norton has signed onto
The
Italian Job according to the Hollywood
Reporter.
06-08
Thanks to Kazuko, pics of Mark
at yesterday's Lakers game at Yahoo
and NBA.com.
Hope you all in the LA area were
able to make the Walk for Autism.
06-05
Mark's 31st Birthday!!
Those in the LA area, here's
your chance to see Mark and do something for people with disabilities especially
Autism! Details here or at the
United
Autism Alliance website! And if you do talk to him, tell him I said
hello (and told you about it)! Make sure you get there early they're expecting
7500 people and the rally starts at 8am!
Updated a few items in the FAQs.
05-30
Some possible casting
news for The Italian Job. Looks like Charlize Theron is in talks
to co-star with Mark. She played Erica in The Yards.
05-24
Thanks to Baby Goat & Kazuko
for the heads up that Mark was at Robert Evans' Walk of Fame ceremony today.
Also added 2 new articles in
regard to the MoMA event last month to the list.
05-18
From the NY Post...Liz Smith:
IF
YOU are the kind of guy who loves to play
basketball with your pals,
including George Clooney, then you're like Mark
Wahlberg, who wanted a court
built for his new digs nestled in the Hollywood Hills. His home has such
a long winding road uphill that Mark had to have the materials lifted in
by helicopter. What's not to like about being a movie star?
05-15
From the NY DAILY NEWS...RUSH
AND MOLLOY: Heather Graham and Tobey Maguire are becoming inseparable.
The two, who were at Lotus recently, showed up at Noel Ashman's party at
Centro Fly on Saturday. Though they were part of a group that included
Mark Wahlberg, Matt Dillon, Chris Kattan, Jerry O'Connell and Christina
Aguilera, a spy says they came and left together.
05-14
Just caught the AH thing, had
a shot of Mark's PSA for the Boys & Girls Club, as well more of Mark
talking about his past. A bit from what I suspect was his speech in Anaheim
was in a montage. More when I have time to dissect the clip.
From today's Boston Herald (thnx
to Kristy Kay on the MW Boards): We hear Hollywood heavy Mark Wahlberg
likes to Boogie Nights at Aria when he's back in the jurisdiction. But
the chi-chi club has one drawback: No Budweiser is served! You can take
the kid out of Dorchester . . . But smarter heads prevailed at the Tremont
Street hotspot recently and some Bud suds were already chillin' in the
cooler when Marky made the scene.
05-13
On the MW Boards Es and Mariah
report there will be a short clip of Mark on Access
Hollywood tomorrow!
Monica of MW
Italian Tribe reports an Italian filmsite, Film
Up reports Mark has signed onto Pride & Glory. Can't tell you how
accurate the site is, but we shall see if it turns out true.
Went to see a very good (and
sexy) indie called Y Tu Mama Tambien.
Not for the youngsters (subtitles & nekid folks) but great story about
the secrets we either ignore or keep inside of us.
05-11
Rock Star finally is released
on DVD/VHS July 1 for those in Western Europe (Region 2).
The lawsuit against the makers
of The Perfect Storm was thrown out Thursday on grounds of first Amendment
protection. If you've forgotten about this case, I've added all the articles
and PR from WB. As such, Mark and the Shatford family were not involved
in the suit.
05-07
KristyKay on the MW Boards spotted
this on the Boston Herald: Our fairway spies report they spotted Dorchester's
own Hollywood hot shot, Mark Wahlberg, teeing up yesterday at The Pinehills,
the oh-so-posh golfing community in Plymouth. By the way, Marky's a leftie.
A little primer on Jonathan Demme
- director of The Truth About Charlie - is up on Greg's fabulous site PT
Anderson.com, contributor Bob discusses Demme's career and Demme's
influence on Paul.
05-06
So more details on that clip
that was shown last weekend. A couple members at the West San Gabriel Valley
Boys & Girls Club posted on the MW.com MBs about their experience.
Seems our Mark was shooting a commercial for the B&G Club, The local
club has some photos posted at their website.
04-28
Mark Shields and Baby Goat reported
Mark was shown briefly on Extra & Access Hollywood. Asked about the
remake mania Hollywood is stuck on: But is there a downside? Access
[Hollywood] put that question to Planet of the Apes star Mark Wahlberg
and he said: "Yes, on a creative level, but that seems to be what is bringing
in the bucks."
Sad revelation considering all
the independent films that get very little money despite having original
stories. Go see an indie near you and show Hollywood we want something
more. Toilet humour is fine for comedy but not every freaking comedic movie!
04-26
Dark Horizons has a link to
another test
screening review of Charlie.
04-23
Upcoming movies now reports
Charlie is moved back another 2 weeks! Mind you it's still an unofficial
date as Universal itself has not said so in its websites.
04-20
Updated my DVD
page with some contact info. Internationally, DVD are often made by
companies different from the US studios. Thus I'd do some research on some
of your region specific dvd websites to get the correct offices. From what
I've read, the TK, BH, RS & POTA editions were identical in Region
1, 2 & 4. But TY, BD, BN & TC editions varied with some extras
missing in each region's dvds! The completeness person in me is appalled
I'm missing something.
04-19
Syndicated columnists Marilyn
Beck & Stacy Janel Smith reported: 'The future of the next "Planet
of the Apes" is in limbo.
Producer Richard Zanuck reveals
that, though his blockbuster of 2001 has brought in some $380 million worldwide,
20th Century Fox has yet to decide when -- or if -- it will proceed with
its follow-up.
"The studio made a lot of
money on the picture, but because the budget was so high, it's in no hurry
to do another," he says.
"Apes" cost just a little
over $100 million -- modest by today's standards for major studio adventure
yarns that require extensive special effects. However, Zanuck says of the
sequel, "It could be a couple of years." Or not at all'. So Mark's
option to do the sequel might never be exercised.
04-18
News that Rock Star is
out on DVD in New Zealand (and the rest of Oceania) and for rental as VHS.
04-16
From NY POST/PAGE SIX: "DIRECTOR
David O. Russell ("Spanking the Monkey," "Flirting With Disaster," "Three
Kings") was honored the other night at a Museum of Modern Art fete that
drew the likes of Lily Tomlin, Sandra Bernhard and Mark Wahlberg. But Russell
didn't always enjoy such prestige at the museum. About 15 years ago, when
he was just a fledgling filmmaker, Russell, now 43, paid the bills by waitering
at MOMA parties. "They'd be honoring Martin Scorsese and I'd be serving
him a drink," he said."
04-13
Looks like Mark was in NY a
few days ago according to the NY Daily News: "Mayor Bloomberg's admission
that he enjoyed his brush with marijuana may have emboldened the crowd
at MoMA's party for "Three Kings" director David O. Russell Wednesday night.
Several brazenly toked up after a panel discussion on his work. Among those
at the event were Wes Anderson, Lily Tomlin, Patricia Arquette, Spike Jonze,
Mark Wahlberg, John Leguizamo, Sofia Coppola, Sandra Bernhard, Ben Chaplin,
Kimberly Pierce and Mary Tyler Moore ..."
Coming Attractions has a page
set up for future scoops for The Italian Job. Bookmark
it to keep up to date on the rumors.
04-11
Some reviews from a test screening
in Philly from AICN.
Not the most glowing reviews, with but the most positive one sounded like
he knew what he was talking about. Anywho, I'll judge for myself. Again
it says October.
News finally! Mark is set to
star in "The Italian Job" according
to Variety. If you're thinking of vacationing around Italy, now's the time
to start booking some flights! LOL
Anyone else wondering if Mark
is being typecasted into remakes? There was POTA, Charade, rumors on The
Incredible Hulk, SWAT and now a remake of a Michael Caine picture! Seeing
some nasty comments on a couple newsgroups where the news was posted. I'm
kinda concerned myself, having not seen TIJ, I can't really comment. But
looks like it was an all star car chase movie. I hope its a little more
substantial in the new version.
04-09
Fellow visitor, Susan also wants
y'all to know that Fear is FINALLY out on VHS in the UK!
Monica of MW
Italian Tribe found this little item on Launch (via Yahoo) "Ja Rule
is also scheduled to appear in the prison movie Half Past Dead with Steven
Seagal, and in the big-screen adaptation of S.W.A.T. with Samuel L. Jackson
and Mark Wahlberg." So on that note, I checked around and saw it was
rumored over at Coming
Attractions last week. We shall see if its just wishful gossip or some
real news.
