by car and ferry

Bear in mind that the hotels, church and reception are all  within walking distance of each other once you get to Edgartown and not all of the hotels have parking available, so if you do not want to bring your car over on the ferry, you don't have to.  Also, if you live in the area, it is possible to make it to and from the island in one day.  The reception will end in time to take the last ferry to the mainland.

That being said, if you would prefer to bring your car to the island, this is a possibility.  Reservations are necessary and they may be made by contacting the Steamship Authority.

It is also possible to drive your car to the ferry, park it, and then walk over on the boat...sort of.

The Steamship Authority operates a number of parking lots on the mainland where you can park your car for a fee of $8/day and then take a free shuttle to and from the terminal.  It is best to arrive at the lot about about 45-60 minutes before the boat is scheduled to leave, just to be safe.  Please visit the ferry website for more information.

The largest lot and the one in which  you'll most likely end up is the "Palmer Ave. Lot" (222 Palmer Avenue, Falmouth, MA).  For driving directions to the Palmer Ave. lot,
The lot is on the right hand side of the road, soon after the Mobil station and is marked with a large white sign.

Walk-on passengers do not need a reservation and may purchase their tickets from the ticket machines at the Palmer Ave lot bus shelter or from the Steamship Authority Terminal when the shuttle bus drops you off.
