The Church was dedicated to St Mary in 1456.
A low Pyramid spire was removed in 1831
The Six bells are dated between 1646 and  1893
The Church Register begins in 1609
Owned by WILLIAM de Broase in 1080, he gave  it the Abbey of St Florent, Squmur.
They gave it back to Williams son Phillip in  1096 in exchange for the Washington Church.
Phillip gave it to Richard de Harcourt who  passed it on to his brother Phillip who was the Dean of Lincoln. Phillip gave it  to the Nights Templer around 1139.
In 1438 the church was referred to as a  chapel.
After the suppression of the Templers it was  passed to the Hospitalers whose farmers appointed a parish priest in the  early 16th century.
In the 19th century it was passed to  the Burrell Family.
RICHARD CAREY Curate 1573-9 listed as a  former religious.
1604 Three Curates known to have served the  village described as neither graduates or preachers
1646 Robert Swanwick ejected from the church  for drunkenness
1646 John Buckley, a puritan ejected from  the position at the restoration.
William Turner 1682
John Lee 1713 Said to have lived 50 years in  the parish.
William Jameson1775 Curate.
In 1838 the average congregation was 150  people in the morning and 200 at the later service.
Because the parish is a large one and its  people scattered over several miles
in 1903 a mission Hall was built in Coolham.
1779 no name, but the curate was said to be  a diligent man, reading homilies every Sunday and religious day.
