The Labour Rate, encouraged by Sir Charles Burrell was adopted in 1832 but did little to diminish the un employed which in the year 1829 was 110 Shipley men and in the winter of 1831/2 averaged 108 |
by the year 1830 the situation for many was desperate and as many as 75 able bodied workers took themselves to Horsham or Brighton to find work. many became so desperate that in 1835 many applied to emigrate abroad. |
