( J )   COPYING THE WORD OF GOD

14.  When thou art come unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;
15.  Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the Lord thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
16.  But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the Lord hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
17.  Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
18.  And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that
he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
19.  And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God,
to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
20.  That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren,
and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.  -  Deut. 17:14-20

In Deuteronomy, the Lord God gives specific and clear instruction regarding the copying of His laws and statutes, His holy Word.  The specific guidelines in regard to the copying of Gods Word by the king are simple and clear.  The copy is to be done whereby the king is able to keep, ( i.e., preserve ),  all the words of the law and the statutes which God had put in place in order that they be followed and obeyed.  The king is instructed not to turn aside from the commandment of God either to the right hand nor to the left.

Such specific instruction to the king is in direct agreement with other scriptures in regard to the treatment and handling of Gods Word.  Other scriptures which clearly and plainly declare that not one Word of God is to be added to nor diminished from.  Therefore,  whenever the scripture was copied by the God appointed king, and in order to keep in place and maintain the strict parameters of not adding to nor taking away from the words of scripture, it was necessary to preserve the words of God within each copy that was made.  For the specific purposes that the king would fear the Lord God, prevent his heart from being lifted up in pride and also so that he and his children would have length of days.   Thus, the Word of God was continually preserved without error and fault or deception.

This instruction was not meant only for the kings of Israel.  The instruction to keep and preserve Gods Word is also a command and is thus beneficial to all of Gods children.  God kept and preserved His Word in ancient Israel and it is certain that He has done so throughout all the centuries and generations of mankind.  Therefore, that continued, Holy Spirit anointed, preservation of holy scripture was perfectly fulfilled and accomplished for the English tongue in 1611 of the King James translation.   The writer of Psalms and Proverbs testify to this work of preservation by God in regard to His Word;

6.  The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7.  Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.  -  Psalms 12:6-7

5.  Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God:
6.  Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:  -  Psalms 146:5-6

5.  Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6.  Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.  -  Proverbs 30:5-6
