( E )  FINAL THOUGHTS

For any Christian to believe and conclude that the wizard Gandalf of the Lord of the Rings stories is a type of Christ is nothing more than deceptive and unscriptural thinking.  Gandalf is a character whose very work and person is scripturally condemned as an abomination by God.  Gandalf is a character whose very work and person is revealed in scripture to be in direct opposition to the righteousness of the Lord and is such that can deceive even the Christian.  On the other hand, the scriptural evidences about the person and work of Jesus Christ show that in no manner is He condemned by God nor in direct opposition to the righteousness of the Lord.  Gandalf is a sinful character who has no relationship with the Living God whereas Jesus Christ, the Son of God is holy and without sin.

Jesus Christ is truth and His followers will obey truth.  Gandalf is not truth but rather is deception.  Consequently, as a deception, the character of Gandalf cannot lead any person to truth much less be a type of the truth, i.e. Jesus Christ.

20.  Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  -  Isaiah 5:20

The rebuke of Isaiah could not be more clear.   Attempts to present evil as being good and vice versa should not be done.  Evil and good does not mix nor does light and darkness.  In section (
A ) and section ( C ) of this study, the scriptural examination of the evil of wizardry, sorcery and witchcraft were made plain.  Yet in spite of how God has specifically dealt with and warns His people against the evils of those matters, in this present day there are still numerous Christians who have no problem equating Gandalf, the wizard of the LOTR stories, with the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The scriptures continue by writing;

4.  Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.  -  Job 14:4

16.  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17.  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18.  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19.  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.  -  Matthew 7:16-20

11.  Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12.  Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.  -  James 3:11-12

Again, the clarity of the scriptural instruction of Gods Word is evident.  Nothing clean or good can be a result or by-product of that which is evil and unclean.  A wicked source will only result in wickedness not purity or holiness.  Stories such as the LOTR and HP books are corrupt and evil works because the methods used by characters in those writings for the purpose of obtaining desired ends and results are unscriptural methods which are condemned by Gods Word.  They are writings which cannot produce the fruit of repentance nor the other fruits of the Spirit of God.  Such deceptive written works, ( I call them deceptive because of the foolish thinking of certain Christians who believe that such writings do in fact convey scriptural and Godly truths to the reader ), can in no manner lead any person to any truthful knowledge of who God and Jesus Christ are nor their role in relating to mankind.  The scriptures go on by writing;

10.  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11.  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12.  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.  -  2 Thess. 2:10-12

3.  He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
4.  I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.  -  Isaiah 66:3-4

9.  But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.
10.  For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
11.  Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
12.  Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
13.  Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
14.  Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
15.  Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
-  Isaiah 47:9-15

These scriptures provide a clear picture of people who choose to reject the knowledge, wisdom and counsel which God offers in exchange for the perverted and wicked knowledge of enchantments, sorceries and other ungodly counsels.  Unless this kind of action is repented of, then such things only result in God giving those persons completely over to the deceits, lies and corrupt knowledge which they have chosen to embrace.  It is a most dangerous issue when Christians allow themselves to conclude that corrupt and ungodly story characters convey and represent pure and Godly characteristics and intentions.  Such activity can only blur the dividing line between that which God deems evil and that which He deems good.
