Oakland Plumbing Supply Company

Oakland Plumbing Supply Company was a wholly-owned subsidiary of P.E. O'Hair & Co.  The business was created in 1909 to serve the Oakland, California area. It was originally managed by Milton Horner. Oakland Plumbing Supply was merged with P.E. O'Hair & Co. prior to 1960.

Fresno Plumbing Supply Company

Fresno Plumbing Supply Company was a wholly-owned subsidiary of P.E. O'Hair & Co.  Created in 1914, the business served the Fresno, California area. It was managed by John Hinton until 1951. Fresno Plumbing Supply was merged with P.E. O'Hair & Co. prior to 1960.
Western Plumbing Supply

Western Plumbing Supply was a San Jose-based plumbing supply business that was created in 1931 as an equal partnership of P.E. O'Hair & Co, San Francisco-based Richmond Sanitary Supply Co., and San Diego-based Mead-Whiting Co.   Western Plumbing initially comprised plumbing supply stores in San Jose, Monterey, and Stockton. Shortly after the company's formation, the Monterey business was sold and a Salinas supply business was acquired.

In 1945, Mead-Whiting Co. sold its one-third ownership to its two partners. And in 1947, Richmond Sanitary Supply Co. sold its fifty percent interest to P.E. O'Hair & Co., making Western Plumbing Supply a wholly-owned subsidiary. Western Plumbing Supply was merged with P.E. O'Hair & Co. in 1974 and the Salinas, San Jose, and Stockton stores began operating under the P.E. O'Hair & Co. name.

O'Hair Supply Company

O'Hair Supply Company was a Sacramento, California-based wholesale plumbing supply business. Formed prior to World War II as a partnership between P.E. O'Hair & Co. and the Detterding family, the company was originally known as the J.R. Detterding Co.   P.E. O'Hair & Co. bought out the Detterding's interest in the early 1960's. In 1963, the business was incorporated as O'Hair Supply Company.   It was merged with P.E. O'Hair & Co. in 1974.
O'Hair Realty Company

O'Hair Realty Company was a subsidiary business of P.E. O'Hair & Co. that owned the real estate on which P.E. O'Hair & Co. operated, as well as the homes of some O'Hair family members.  O'Hair Realty was created in the 1920's and dissolved sometime after 1950.

Central Plumbing Supply

Central Plumbing Supply, a San Franciso retail plumbing supply store, began operations in about 1909 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of P.E. O'Hair & Co.  The business may have been originally managed by P.E. O'Hair's son Neil. When Neil began working for P.E. O'Hair & Company in 1912, Fritz Bowman, P.E. O'Hair's son-in-law, assumed management of Central Plumbing Supply.  The company was later managed by Fritz's sons, Carl and Robert.   Central Plumbing Supply closed in the early 1950's following Fritz Bowman's retirement in 1951.
Bowman Plumbing Supply

Bowman Plumbing Supply was a San Francisco retail plumbing supply store which began operations about 1931 and closed sometime after 1940.  The business may have been owned by Fritz Bowman.   Employees of the company included Ray Allen, Pearl Allen, and Lloyd Allen, all relatives of Cora Anna Allen O'Hair, Doug O'Hair, a grandson of P.E. O'Hair, and Fritz's brother Karl August Maurits (Charles) Bowman.
Portland Plumbing Supply Company

During the 1920's, and possibly up until the 1950's, P.E. O'Hair & Co. was involved in operating a Portland, Oregon-based business named Portland Plumbing Supply Company.

Union Representation

A significant number of the employees of P.E. O'Hair & Company were laborers who worked in the company's warehouses, unloading shipments from vendors, stocking shelves, filling customer orders, and delivering products to customers.  Most of these employees were represented in collective bargaining agreements with various labor unions.
