A Word of encouragement from one of our Teachers.

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Phil.3:13 & 14).

I have heard this taught several ways over the years, usually in the context of forgetting the life you left behind before becoming a Christian. Today I would like to look at it in the light of Paul already being a Christian and doing miraculous things for God, yet he did not consider himself to having arrived. He still pressed on. Paul knew that he still had a long way to go before he achieved or apprehended all that Christ had planned for him (1Cor.2:9).

I believe Paul was exhorting the church of Philippi not to be satisfied with what they had accomplished, yet at the same time not to grow stagnant or discouraged with what was going on around them. In 1Cor.9:24 Paul wrote "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it".

God wants us to always strive towards being more like Christ in the way we speak, the way we act, and also in the way we think. We have to continually grow so that God can accomplish His work, in not only our lives, but in the lives of the ones around us. Amen and God Bless!
