Key-Lekh : Indian Language Keyboard

It is designed to achieve easy typing using single finger of both hands which is very much consistent with the finger dynamics followed by the novices or the second generation users. The consonants are arranged as per their phonetic classification taught in the primary schools by the name "varnamala".The vowel matras are arranged as per their orientation around the consonant grapheme.

With functional prototype evaluation was conducted to compare the typing operational habits and finger dynamics preferences, with broad objective like Layout optimization and reduced visual load hunting load

Evaluation model

Designing new text entry methods for computing systems islabour intensive. It is also expensive, since a working prototype must be built, and then tested with real users. Because most text entry methods take time to learn, the testing should preferably take place in longitudinal settings. However, longitudinal user studies are tedious. A pragmatic approach is to develop a predictive model to "test" new text entry methods a priori - - without building prototypes or training users. Models, at their best, can be valuable and informative tools for designers of new text entry methods. We developed an evaluation model based on the Fitt’s Law and T9 methodology.

User Personas

Thinking in terms of user profiles helps to decide the usability goals. We plotted different user profiles with following variables along the other axis. Variables are

1. Criticalness of speed of typing, 2. How often interaction happens? 3. Kind of material keyed in 4. How critical are the errors 5.How much material to be keyed in?

This permit us to classify them in fewer groups and find common solutions. The current Barakhadi address to bulk typing, fewer errors, high speed, and used everyday which is probably the most difficult problem to solve.
