31(V) Squadron is the first of the RAFv Frontline Tornado Units. The Squadron specialises in the Suppression of Enemy Air Defence (SEAD) role. SEAD basically means, destroying/neutralising enemy air defences. 31 spends about 40% of its annual flying hours, practising SEAD Missions. The remainder is spent with Low Level Flying, practice ground attack missions using a variety of armaments and Night Attack. Currently 5 aircraft are operated by No.31 Squadron. |
