Other Services and Future Workshops being Held and Developed

For the benefit of the lesbian and gay community

 The True Identity/Skills for Life Mailing List.

Very shortly a mailing list will be developed for interested individuals who are not only keen to keep in touch with the work and activities of True Identity and the services we are offering to lesbians and gay men in Manchester and further afield. Further more, however it will be a discussion forum for lesbians and gay men to discuss and debate via e-mail issues of concern to lesbians and gay and explore ways in which the life of lesbians and gay men can be enhanced and improved. This mailing list will be done using the services of www.onelist.com, but unfortunately at the time of writing the server was down so the list could not be established. In the interim, please email me at [email protected] if you would like details of this mailing list once it has been set up.

All lesbians and gay men who attend any of our training programmes have an opportunity to take part in follow up training programmes and other events which will be designed to meet individual needs and requirements. These may have been highlighted during a programme or may be suggested by any participant who has taken part.

As well as the "Skills for Life" training programmes listed in this brochure, we additionally have further training programmes available under the heading of Management Development Skills and Sexual Health, Sex, Sexuality and Relationships Awareness Training. The objectives of these training programmes can be sent on request by writing to True Identity.

Any training programme is available as an internal resource for lesbian and gay organisations or businesses and can be for members, volunteers or staff members. We will happily design and deliver any training programme which are not listed, using the many different training resources we have at our fingertips. Being developed for the summer of 1998 will be a residential weekend for lesbians and gay men, from all over England, Wales and Scotland. The residential weekend will be on the theme of Human Relationship Skills and the modules will include: How you Learnt to Relate; Personal Responsibility and Feelings; Talking about Yourself; Starting and Developing Relationships; Defining and Asserting Yourself; Becoming a Good Listener; Managing Anger and Stress; Managing Conflict and Maintaining and Developing Relationship Skills.

The weekend will be held in the country, somewhere central and will also be an opportunity to relax and unwind, individual exploration in a quiet setting and meet others from other gay and lesbian communities. Further weekends will also be developed on an whole range of different themes.

From time to time True Identity will develop and organise one day workshops which will be of benefit to the whole lesbian or gay community or will be aimed at different sections of the lesbian and gay community, who sometimes can be forgotten about.

Some of the workshops being planned for 1998 include depression/mental health; the police, legal issues and the law; how to deal with discrimination; dealing with sexual abuse for people who have survived abuse.
