le courtisane de mode

Danielle's Gypsy Camp Outfit

Costume Description
Hip-length jerkin with wide sleeves. Patterned in a paisley design - reds, golds, browns (see lightened picture #3). Most likely velvet. Cinched in at waist with wide dark leather belt. Seen best in movie when Henry drops Danielle off at her house (after they kiss, aww). Wears a white chemise underneath, floor-length. Chemise itself has no waistline but is fitted to the body by a short half-bodice of wool(?) which laces at the back/side seams (picture #3-4). Sleeves of the chemise are 'poofed' to match her Blue Gown. These poofs are formed by casing at the elbow, either a movie cheat of elastic or possibly more historically accurate drawstring (picture #6). Her underthings are seen really well in the movie when she climbs the cliff to figure out how to get home. Worn with same jewelry and bright blue shoes as the Blue Gown.

Historical Reference
Thanks to the cosprop.co.uk concept sketches, we know for certain that the vast majority of the costumes in Ever After were inspired by historical paintings, e.g., Danielle's Princess Gown, Danielle's Blue Library Gown, Jacqueline's Green Brocade Gown. We've been able to identify many of the paintings seen in these concept sketches, but since we don't have sketches for each costume, we have to speculate for some. However, we've been unable to find historical reference for Danielle's Gypsy Camp Outfit - know of any paintings with similarities? Email me.
