AMAZONA ORATRIX ORATRIX: Caribbean and Pacific coastal regions of Mexico. AMAZONA ORATRIX BELIZENSIS: Caribbean coastal regions of Belize. AMAZONA ORATRIX HONDURENSIS: Honduras, region of Sula valley. AMAZONA ORATRIX TRESMARIAE: Islas Tres Marias (Pacific, W-Mexico).
Mostly arid, hilly forest lands up to 700m, to a lesser extend also found in rain forests. Coastal regions are avoided. Sometimes they come into the cities and villages.
Size: about 35 cm.
Fruits, seeds, nuts and berries.
Plumage: General green. entire head and face down to the throat yellow. Bend of wing red with some yellow feathers, red mark on the secondaries. Underside of body with a bluish tinge. Tights yellowish. Bill: fleshy ivory, cere flesh-colored. Feet: greyish. Iris: yellowish.
Differences: AMAZONA ORATRIX TRESMARIAE the yellow of the head extends more down to upper breast and lower neck. AMAZONA ORATRIX BELIZENSIS only upper head to a line from lores to earspot including upper cheeks are yellow. AMAZONA ORATRIX HONDURENSIS shows yellow head colorisation only at fore head and nape.
