Many myths and false stories are told about us, Gay Ugandans (Kuchu) Most are ridiculous. Some we believe also. But they are false. The aim of this page is to TELL THE TRUTH. BEWARE OF THESE LIES. THEY ARE FALSE.
LIE 1 There are no Gay People in Uganda This is ridiculous. It should not be here, but for the fact that the President of the Republic once told a Meeting of Commonwealth Ministers so. KUCHUS, STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!
LIE 2 Being Gay is Un-African. This is also ridiculous. How many of you guys and gals are not African? Are you going to allow people to tell you that you are not what you are? WE ARE GAY, WE ARE AFRICAN, WE ARE UGANDAN!
LIE 3 Homosexuality is a disease or disorder. It needs treatment. Hang on. This is what doctors thought long time ago. In 1973, the first Psychiatrist Organisation acknowledged that there was NO evidence that homosexuality was a disorder. Today,2006, the International Classification of Disease 10, a list of all diseases and disorders maintained by the World Health Organisation clearly states that 'SEXUAL ORIENTATION IS NOT A DISEASE OR DISORDER' Tell your
doctors to style up! Be VERY CAREFUL of any doctor who says he/she can treat and change homos. That doctor is a quack! LIE 4 Homosexuality is 'bad' It is 'immoral', stupid, deserves death, very bad etc, etc. You, the kuchu, may actually believe this. it is very UNTRUE We gay people are a mixture, just like other human beings. Some of us are good, others bad, handsome and ugly, bright and dull, tall and short, thin or fat. Our sexual orientation has nothing to do with us being bad. We have the right (like other human beings) to be good and bad!
LIE 5 Homosexuals do not get HIV from each other. A very dangerous lie, which we tell each other. A boy can get HIV and other STDs from another boy. A girl can get HIV and other STDs from another girl. Check out our Health Section LIE 6 We don't need Gay Rights. I hope you are not joking. I, and You are a human being, like all other Ugandans. I can be arrested, and imprisoned for life for making love to my lover. I can be thrown out of a Club because someone thinks I am gay. I am blackmailed by some. No one tells me about how to prevent HIV because they think I don't exist. I fear to say I exist because I may be killed by a mob and the police may look on. NO!
This is not right. We are normal human beings and we need our fellows to stop bullying us. We will not
