Low-Flying Jets
October 18, 2006

Low flying jets were a familiar sight and sound on the grounds of Dhahran. Passenger jets used to contribute to the booms overhead as they flew in and out of the now defunct neighboring Dhahran International Airport. Anyone trying to catch a glimpse of the disrupters of the peace would likely spot a set of F-15C/D fighter aircraft making practice rounds overhead. My days at the golf driving range often came accompanied by a pair of Royal Saudi Air Force jets shrieking as they banked towards their final approach to the nearby military landing strip. Occasionally, a set of four or more jets would demonstrate a mini airshow with alternating smoke trails of green and white - the national colors of Saudi Arabia. These unregulated low-altitude flybys may have shown no mercy to our throbbing eardrums, but they sure were treats to our eyes. And for that, I salute you.
