The criminals brake out of their compounds and slaughtered all the staff in front of their families. CHASE #1,000,000 - "Don't Believe It!"
w. D Curtis Johnson p. J. H. Williams III i. Mick Gray

Unlike many institutions the Department of Extranormal Operations (the branch of the U.S. Government dedicated to investigating/controlling meta-humans and meta-crimes) survived the political changes that resulted in a unified Earth, the end of the United States and the millennia of social evolution that followed. They went under ground becoming something of an "urban myth" yet still part of the governmental structure. By the 853rd century they are charged with regulating and controlling illegal power Icons and their misuse. A typical DEO strike team is made up of a Chase M* (with the ability to block an Icon's power, charged with neutralising the offender), Snare M* (charged with capturing and holding the offender) and Lead M* (charged with tracking and identifying the offender).

One DEO team tracks Sandoval Lucas Castro Van Lyden and accuses him to dealing in illegal Icons, but the bust goes wrong when he tries to use a Ambush Bug Teleport Icon to escape and ends up dead, entombed in a wall. The DEO head, the Skull, debriefs the team before they set out to track the source of Sandoval's supplier. They follow the trail to a known dealer who has been cut off from Headnet as punishment and is forced into a life outside of society as it is then known. He turns out to be innocent and the supplier is actually his daughter. However before she can be apprehended the Chase agent has a change if heart and allows her to escape. CREEPER #1,000,000 - "Insanitation"
w. Len Kaminski p. Shawn Martinbrough i. Sal Buscema

The thirteenth planet is Iai, a rogue planet that orbitstangential to the normal orbital plane of the other planets. In an age when data and information rule supreme Iai is a place without order and little regard for normal physical laws. Here the intrinsic improbability nexus makes it a hunting ground for data that has been forgotten across the rest of the United Galaxies. One such data adept/hunter is Rydr, a technological data entity that has merged with the chaos of the trickster planet and has been transformed into the chaotic entity that is the Creeper M* of the 853rd century.

That Creeper senses a chaotic meta-paradox that could wipe out everybody in the twentieth century. He journeys back in time to discover a time when Jack Ryder has managed to split himself off from his own Creeper identity, but in the process the Creeper has fractured into multiple versions of himself leaving the real self badly weakened. The future Creeper warns Ryder that he will help but if he does then somebody will die. That Creeper then rounds up the numerous versions of the original Creeper roaming the city and merges them all back into one and then merges them with Jack Ryder. The future Creeper however keeps the personification of the Creepers self hate out of the mix and decides that it shall be the person to die before returning to the future.

It is here amid the data processors and info-junkies of Mercury that the twentieth century Flash III (Wally West) faces his Challenge. He must race himself around Mercury skirting the time barrier and lap his own after image. He does this with ease but before he can celebrate the future Heatwave M* and Captain Cold M* (under the anonymous direction of Solaris) take over the Mercury's Worldnet and cut it off from the rest of the System.

Mercury revolves in such a way that its day is a good fraction of its year future scientist have then altered this rotation so that its day is equal to the length of its year. The effect is to create a world where one side always faces the Sun and is blisteringly hot while the other side that is always deep frozen. This keeps the info rich billionaires warm in their domed paradises and the info-engines cryogenically cooled. Heatwave and Captain Cold seek to use the Flash's speed to speed up Mercury's rotation so that it would disrupt the temperature balance and destroy the planet's civilisation. He enlists the aid of Mahol Toj, Jarada Olsen and Luthor Luthor to connect himself to Headnet but the unfamiliar intensity of information is too much for the twentieth century Superman's mind to cope with at once.

Realising that he needs a more primitive information source he seeks Platinum at the Junk Yard Tesseract. She relates how the Superman Dynasty battled Solaris through the ages and eventually how they reprogrammed Solaris before Superman Prime returned. As she finishes a projection of Solaris appears before then an angrily accuses them of spreading lies and under mining his service to the System. In the meantime he has turned into a bloated side-show display working as a two bit conman. The well meaning waitress Darlene has Lobo accept a contract to track down a mythical villain. In the process he recovers his gear, decimates the JLWB (the Justice Legion Wanna-Bees, members include Wanda Woman, Kaptain karate, Clayman, Greased Lightning and V M.A.R.T.), disrupts a mind meld between Galactic civilisations causing widespread war and indirectly destroys a Diner. Lobo finally leaves this universe via a black hole as he tracks his quarry into a different dimension.

LEGION OF SUPERHEROES #1,000,000 - "1,000 Years Later..."
w Tom Peyer p. Keith Giffen i. Al Gordon

One thousand years after the events of the return of Superman Prime in Earth Tesseract 63060 three youngsters find an ancient page of pictures. They agree to keep it secret from the adults of the Tesseract whose hermetic culture outlaws any new ideas or anything that acts to make one person distinct from another. One of their parents finds out about the page and violently beats his son forcing him to destroy the item. This unleashes the power of the Wildflame - the story keeper of the Legion of Superheroes.

The Wildflame essence relates to the children the history of the LSH up until the final generation in 85,271 AD. After a signal that Earth was under threat from Solaris I a mysterious chaos over came the United Planet Cluster - a large star ship formed from the core planets of the ancient United Planets. The attacks are revealed to be the work of the Titanians who sought to break out on their own now that it appeared the journey to Earth was in vain. Eventually the Titanians and Titangirl were defeated.

The children awaken to find themselves back in Tesseract 63060. Their parents frightened by the new ideas that their children keep talking about have them placed in a Correctional Institution. While in captivity they are visited once more by the Wildflame who transforms them into metahumans. The Legion of Superheroes is reborn once more.
