More interviews
I've caught with a few more reviews. Added my own
review of the film, expect it to get longer when I see it again. Don't
forget Tim on Carson tonight.
Speaking of Tims, Burton that
is, here's what Mark said about POTA 2 during this press run: "If Tim
does it again, I'm in. But if they get some kid who just did the new Missy
Elliott video, I don't know!"
10-30
Added a few late
comers to the review bandwagon. I found the Village Voice's hilarious
as the vocabulary is a bit much for a non-film magazine. Also interviews
with Mark & Demme join the list. Small magazine mentions, a smallish
pic of Mark & Donnie from the premiere is in this week's US Weekly
(Nov 4), Thandie has a small photo spread in the new Details.
10-29
Box
office news archived, not that positive with it only open in 750+ theatres.
So y'all need to spread the word or it'll be gone in a blink of an eye.
My long review forthcoming.
Mark went to Pervasive, a benefit
of one-act plays & poetry for the Cure
Autism Now organization. Pics up at WireImage, thanks to Kazuko!
Also Mark was on Extra the other
day and they have the video
up for view.
10-27
I think that's enough
reviews, you can catch the rest at MRQE,
RT
or your local paper. They're all starting to sound all the same! Besides
final reviews from the majors, also picked up a few Mark articles (don't
you guys read the Boston Herald - almost missed it) and Demme interviews.
And an unconfirmed rumor from
an anonymous source: "[...] Mark is working on an independent film helping
out by doing the project. [...] it was for the next three weeks so I don't
believe he will be in Italy until late November."
10-25
Saw Charlie yesterday and I
can say you will enjoy it because my friend Rebecca and I did too. I don't
understand why so many reviewers found it hard to follow, its not complicated.
Anyway, look for some real life photos of Mark in the beginning of the
movie.
More
reviews, more positive than negative with the newspapers with the Internet
venues very mixed-negative. AICN
(negative), West Coast papers have their say as well as Variety - which
is spoiler heavy.
Late update, this movie is actually
reviewing well in the majors (lots of splits in opinion among reporters
from the same paper and/or city), but Mark isn't - people are totally stuck
on Cary Grant and how he isn't him. Like Duh!! Oh and one reviewer from
Salon actually said Charade was boring!
10-24
A few
more articles, reviews (one from North
Carolina St U) - positive on the movie, not so much on Mark and a TV
Alert. Those in NYC should try to get to the screening today. It's not
everyday you get to ask an Oscar winner questions! Jonathan also is scheduled
for one of the best interviewers bar none, Charlie Rose. Damn wish Mark
was going too or at least via satellite. All that technology for naught.
Check the MBs
for reports by 2 members who went to the B&G honoring dinner. Also
the usual entertainment shows (ET was there) and pics are up at Getty &
Wireimage.
10-23
Another batch
of articles including interviews with Demme on Charlie and why he didn't
sign on for Hannibal, as well as a positive review from the Hollywood Reporter.
Updated the Toronto Sun article with missing paragraphs that appeared in
the Calgary version.
Thandie is on the Caroline Rhea
show and on the syndicated show Kickin' It.
10-22
Turns out Mark was briefly on
today's E News Live, so tape the morning rerun (he's on toward the last
10 minutes of the show). Tim Robbins is on the Today show and the View.
Also the soundtrack
to The Truth About Charlie is released today.
A couple more articles from Detroit,
Minnesota and the Boston Herald (thanks to Annie M for finding that!)
10-20
The print publicity has started,
so be sure to look out in your local paper for articles/interviews (can't
expect me to read them all do you?) First up are the east coast bunch:
Baltimore
Sun, Boston Globe, Toronto Sun/Star & The Bergen Record. Look for
references to his next 2 projects. Think summer in London.
10-19
Added TV alerts for Tim &
Thandie, still no Mark in sight. You can however catch the segment that
aired Monday on ET on the MTV/VH1 version this weekend. Also Demme will
be in NYC doing a Q&A - details in the calendar.
Dark
Horizons had a link to 3
clips from Charlie (only the first one has Mark in it).
One more pic of Mark
at the premiere from TV Guide.
A couple contests, VH-1's
you can win a trip to Paris and InStyle's
you can win a $1000 shopping spree at Saks 5th Avenue. Sorry only US residents
and deadline is late next week.
Lots of articles
about Charlie, including a review, interviews with the editor and Demme.
There's a short preview in the Nov. Premiere with a behind the scene pic
of Mark, Thandie & Demme.
10-18
On Moviehole.net,
PAUL FISCHER interviews Mark
& Thandie.
Getty gets into the act as well
with a bunch of pics from the premiere.
Steph at the boards also found some at Rex
Features (as well as a pic of Mark and Matthew McConaughey at the Carousel
of Hope Ball) and Corbis
has a nice selection.
News on The
Carousel of Hope ball. Also the premiere was covered by ET (and prob
AH) Thursday.
10-16
Wireimage wins the race to post
the premiere
pics!
If you didn't know by now, the
premiere is tonight! Unfortunately I'm about 250 miles away.
Couldn't find it listed on E!
or Tv Guide, but have unconfirmed notice that beginning on the 24th at
2pm EST E!'s Behind the Scene show will feature Charlie. Thanks Meg.
10-14
Some thought-provoking stuff
on TV Sunday (runs again on Tues) on Showtime - Bang Bang, You're Dead
- based on the play of
the same name.
Gossip from the Boston Globe:
Mark
Wahlberg, Ed Norton, Charlize Theron and Jason Statham have been busy working
on the mean streets of Los Angeles, shooting a remake of the 1969 heist
caper flick "The Italian Job," and are soon to head to Italy, where filming
will continue till Dec. 20. The first "Italian Job" starred Michael Caine,
Noel Coward and Benny Hill. Like this "Job," it includes a scene in which
traffic lights are reprogrammed so everyone else has to stop -- the biggest
traffic jam ever -- while the robbers have clear sailing. Of course they
had to lens it in Los Angeles.
Oh, PTAnderson.com
points to an absolutely fabulous interview
with Demme & Thandie when they were in DC recently with the guys
of TheMovieBoy (this guy has a more positive view of Charlie).
Ah one more cool bit, some behind
the scenes pics when they were filming in France. Included are a cast/crew
pic, a scene to be shot and Demme in his hotel room. Don't forget Thandie
on Letterman Tues night!
10-12
The Truth about Charlie
premiere details! The soundtrack
is pushed back a week to be released the 22nd. Also check out the movie
site, it has been overhauled this weekend and has a load of stuff to
read and look, including wall paper of Joshua (Mark) for 600,
800
and 1024
screens.
Edward-Norton.org
found a story from the NY Observer that expands on Premiere's little item
about him being forced to do TIJ. Some major negative vibes! But it does
also lets us know filming goes on til at least mid-December.
October's
an all Wahlberg month it seems, besides Mark and Donnie on Boomtown (Sundays
NBC), here's Bob at the Boston Film Bureau Benefit earlier this month.
10-11
Here's a positive
review of Charlie from Eopinions. Also another Tim Robbins interview
in the calendar - he had some nice words for Mark on Kilborn.
Jason on the Italian
Job on about.com via Dark Horizons.
Interesting article on acting
from USC's Daily
Trojan today with comments on Mark.
10-10
Word is Shawn Fanning of Napster
(RIP - tho also hear Shawn sold film rights to his rise & fall as founder/CEO)
has a cameo appearance in The
Italian Job!
Kazuko found some more
stills from Charlie. Be sure to check the rest of her site.
More mixed reviews coming in
from IMDB, Rotten
Tomatoes & an Internet
movie reviewer. While it is disappointing to read all these mixed reviews,
I think Charlie is a movie that might require a bit of prep for the average
movie goer to fully understand the vision Demme has. It's obviously not
a movie where you sit back and leave your brain at home.
So I'm going to point to a few
French New Wave links so you won't be wondering over what you're seeing,
when you should be paying attention to the clues. First is a paper by a
student
at the University of Washington and its a good introduction to the
movement. Next is an
essay that's a bit more technical and finally an
article from Salon about director Truffant.
10-08
So evidently there was a screening
in Seattle recently and AICN
has the review. A bit more positive on this one, but still decidely
negative. There is a big spoiler at the end, so don't say I didn't warn
you.
Update, I took off the Leno interview
as word via Mark S. said Leverage is now saying Mark is NOT doing
Leno. Stay tuned.
Also Rex
has a handful of Mark, Jason & Charlize on the set as well! I'm sure
Monica has them neatly arranged if Rex is cranky.
10-07
Another dozen plus at Getty
of Mark & Jason on the TIJ filming, see them at Monica's MW
Italian Tribe.
Added some articles
on Charlie. A review from a DC
screener on Eclipse Magazine, check their MB's
where other readers may comment on it and the preview from Premiere with
a cute quote from Thandie.
One more local contest for a
sneak
preview in Sacramento, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Century Stadium.
Also more Euro dates, note some of them I have not been able to verify
via their UIP sites.
10-05
Get ready we got some TV/VCR
alerts: Mark & co are hitting the airwaves to promote Charlie! And
someone at TWOP dropped
this quick word on the film "Mark does a breath-taking job recreating Cary
Grant role in "Truth about Charlie" which opens this month" Are you excited
yet?
Watch out for Jason Statham &
Seth Green doing some interviews in the next 2 weeks as well. Maybe they'll
mention The Italian Job! Speaking of which Monica and crew found Getty
has a dozen pics of Mark on the set on Hollywood Blvd up. Check People.com
for a nice non-watermarked version of Mark. Did any of you try to catch
a glimpse of filming this week?
A bit OT, Donnie's been doing
some interviews to promote Boomtown. Some interesting tidbits. The rumor
of him & Mark working together. It's false, just a rumor. He again
said it wouldn't happen til much later down their careers. Also noted their
older brother Robert is in Moonlight Mile, which has some heavy Oscar buzz.
10-03
Mark
was at The Transporter premiere yesterday to support fellow TIJ co-star
Jason Statham. He was one of the last people to get on the red carpet and
rushed thru. Also there were several Snatch connections: Brad Pitt &
Guy Ritchie.
Here's a positive review
of Charlie on Dark Horizons, there are some minor spoilers so beware.
Also DH notes UIP
Netherlands has some new pics from the movie.
10-02
From today's Boston Globe: THE
TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE Last night at Loews Boston Common, director Jonathan
Demme (''Silence of the Lambs'' and ''Philadelphia'') and actress Thandie
Newton (''Beloved'' and ''Mission: Impossible II'') met with an audience
and answered questions about their new movie, ''The Truth About Charlie,''
a remake of the 1963 thriller ''Charade,'' which starred Cary Grant and
Audrey Hepburn. Newton stars opposite Boston's own Mark Wahlberg, who puts
his own spin on the Grant role. Actor Tim Robbins is in the new film (which
opens Oct. 25), updating the role Walter Matthau played in the original.
Found the theaters the sneak
previews will be at but I'm not 100% sure they're all on the 24th, just
the NYC & SF I am sure on. But if you're close to the places, register
for your free passes! BTW you can put fake info if you're concerned
about giving out personal info.
Thanks to Monica of MW
Italian Tribe, who called up UIP Italy and they told her they have
Charlie set for sometime in May or June! :(
10-01
Seems Chicago was the first
official screening of Charlie and one scooper was there. The AICN
scooper has a really bad review and pretty much tells you the whole
film so don't click the link if you hate spoiling it. Suffice to say he
said there was no chemistry and no witty banter with homages to French
films which will go over the heads of a majority of filmgoers. Yikes! Mind
you it is AICN, so some reviewers can be so wrong.
In other news, Dark
Horizons scoops on TIJ filming in LA. Get your bootay to Hollywood
Blvd. this week! "Worked on "The Italian Job" with Mark Wahlberg this
last Saturday and Sunday. Saturday the shot that we did was AWESOME! It
involved hours of prep work and could be done only once due to the cost.
It had a full sized black Hummer (not the crappy new H2, it was the old
hummer) going about 60 mph down the street, hit a ramp, do three flips
and land top down on top of a Porsche 911. They got it, and there was much
rejoicing. On Sunday we did a chase scene involving three cars and a police
car. They used about 40 cars to populate the street, and the cars that
were being chased were weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds. This
movie will be very car-oriented and full of action. It will wrap shooting
in November".
"I live in Hollywood, and
from today through at least Thursday a 5 block stretch of Hollywood Blvd.
- the main drag, with Grauman's Chinese,, El Capitan and the Hollywood/Highland
complex - will be closed off as they shoot a big scene from the remake
of "The Italian Job." Most of the action is taking place between Highland
Bl. and Orange Ave., but it's closed off further west; craft services was
parked all the way down near La Brea. Walking past the set this morning,
I wasn't sure what it was until I saw the Minis parked in front of the
Kodak theater. ;-) Looks to be a portion of the chase sequence."
