Process
As a whole class, watch the video about the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly by clicking on the butterfly.
At your tables, make a butterfly life cycle art project.
Materials Needed:
Paper plate separated into 4 equal parts
Markers, Glue, 7 kidney beans, 1 piece of brown
string (about 1 inch long), 1 bowtie pasta

Label each part of the paper plate. Write Egg, Caterpillar, Chrysalis, and Butterfly. Use the picture below to help you label.
1. Write number 1 inside the EGG
section. Use a green marker to draw a
leaf in the center of the "EGG"
section. (You may also draw the
veins on the leaf). Glue 1 bean in
    the center of the leaf.
2. Write number 2 inside the CATERPILLAR section.  Use a
green marker to draw a caterpillar bigger than the beans.
Glue 5 beans side-by-side. Use a black marker to draw legs
    and an antenna.

3. Write number 3 inside the CHRYSALIS section.  Glue 1
piece of brown string to represent a branch. Draw a green
leaf next to the brown string (branch). Again, you may draw
the veins on the leaf. Glue 1 bean under the leaf as if the
chrysalis is hanging from the leaf.

4. Write number 4 inside the BUTTERFLY section. Glue 1
bowtie pasta in the center of the "BUTTERFLY" section.
Use a black marker to draw the antenna.
When your butterfly eggs are delivered, the teacher will put you into groups of four to explore a stage of the life cycle.  Your group will take photographs, research, and make a project for your stage of the life cycle.
Review the stages of the life cycle:
