There are a number of resources in Rome for help with substance abuse, psychological problems and HIV/AIDS. I am of the mind that if you decide you need help, use whatever works! There are 12 step groups, Christian groups, and independent support groups available. I do not know about some of these programs, but I list them here for your information. Many of the meeting times and contact numbers are listed in the monday edition of the "Roman Record", a supplement to The Rome News Tribune. Many of the Twelve Step Programs have their own web sites, if you want to visit them for more information. Here is a partial listing, with more to come.

Alcoholics Anonymous is the original and oldest 12 step program. AA is a fellowship of men and women who come together for the purpose of recovery from the disease of alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees.
There are meetings every night usually at 8pm, and during the day. There are meeting locations in East Rome, Downtown, West Rome, and surrounding towns. There is a Gay AA clubhouse in Atlanta, the Galano Club, for those of you who do not want to go to AA in town. They have both AA & Alanon meetings.

Alanon is a 12 step program for families and friends of alcoholics. The only requirement for membership is that a friend or relative have a problem with alcohol. The tradition of acceptance is the same as Alcoholics Anonymous. Alanon is a valuable resource for coping and strength for partners and friends of people who have a problem with alcohol. There are meetings in Rome on different nights at different locations.

Narcotics Anonymous is a 12 step program for substance abusers based on the 12 steps of AA and the principles of anonymity and acceptance.

Cocaine Anonymous is a 12 step program for cocaine abuses again based on the principles of anonymity and acceptance.

Christians in Recovery is a 12 step approach to recovery also but more Christian based. There is also Overcomers Outreach and Thankful Addiction Recovery Ministry for those with addiction problems.

Co-Dependents Anonymous is a 12 step approach to recovery from codependency. This program also adheres to the principles of anonymity and acceptance.

Emotions Anonymous is for persons needing support in coping with personal or family problems.

Alzheimer's Support Group is for caregivers and family members of persons with Alzheimer's Disease.

HIV Positive/Friends and family members of HIV Positive people - are two support groups ongoing in Rome.
