Adoptions and Foster Care

Paw Available Felines
  • See a listing of our cats available to be adopted.
  • Download a MS Word Adoption List

You can also take a look at some of our adorable felines for adoption at our Adoption Center at Petco in Washington, DC. Petco is at 3505 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC and is open 9-9 Monday - Saturday and 10-6 Sunday.

The Coalition traps and rescues many homeless and abused cats and kittens. Many of these cats, after a bit of tender loving care, are available for adoptions. It has been said that cats know they have been rescued and saved and will, in turn, always remember that and be loyal to the one who saved him/her.

    Policy
We only ask that you become a responsible pet owner and spay/neuter all cats adopted from us. Since our goal is to prevent the overpopulation of cats, this is very crucial to us. We hope everyone will respect and honor this policy. Of course, we also expect all of our kittens and cats to be given lots of tender loving care, a protected environment, food and water and the respect they deserve.

Adoption Fee Donations *. Current adoption fees include all vetting.

  • $125 for single kitten
  • $185 for two kittens
  • $100 for adult
  • $150 for two adults

    * We had to increase our adoption fees due to vet and spay/neuter cost increases.

  • Second Hand Cat
Give us a chance who are not brand new,
Who would love a home with someone like you.
We may have been around a bit,
Received many a blow and many a kick,
Starved and neglected most of our days,
    Yet we are forgiving anyway.

But now's our chance to start anew,
A home with love that we never knew.
So, before a kitten you're tempted to pick,
Give us a look, but not too quick.
Look at the character in our face,
And our bodies, still full of grace.
Just think of us, day after day,
Watching people look and walk away.
But say the word 'yes' and we will know -
Our bags are packed and we're ready to go.

    Notes

  • Adoption fees are used solely for cat rescue work, vaccinations, spay/neuters and medication and may be paid in cash or with a check.
  • Females usually function better as only cats.
  • We prefer to place our kittens in pairs so that they socialize better and do not become lonely.

Coalition Adoption Terms and Adoption Contract
We ask each adopter to sign our contract which provides for the safety and well being of our cats and kittens. Here are some points from the contract.

  • Adopters must promise to spay/neuter unaltered cats
  • Adopters must promise not to de-claw any cats
  • Adopters who no longer want a feline must return it to Ward 1 Alley Cats
  • Provide food, water, shelter and tender loving care
  • Adopter must promise to feed cats both canned and dry food (it is healthier for the cats).
  • Spay/neuter any feline not already altered
  • Provide a donation fee (see Adoption Fees)

    Foster Care
We sometimes get quite overburdened with cats and kittens and are unable to take them in. If you can foster a cat(s) for several days, we would greatly appreciate it. You may want to see what it's like to own a pet or you may want some company for awhile or you may just want to contribute to this cause and help some unwanted, homeless, abused animal. And...who knows you may find a new permanent feline friend. All you need to do is provide food, water, litter box and other simple necessities as well as some tender loving care.

You may also want to consider fostering a cat that you rescued until we can find a permanent home for him/her. It would help us so much to take in these cats and kittens as we have to turn away so many who then need to try to survive on their own. We may be able to assist with vet costs if the cat is sick and needs medication.
