![]() ZELDA Q and A This section is for answers to questions regarding Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. Video Gamer X may not be able to answer your questions immediately, but will do the best to reply. He may not be able to answer all your questions if you have progressed further in the game than he has, but he will endevor to find them. Bryan Disch Asks: ...Could you please tell me how to get past the door in the deku tree, its a door with bars and has an eye over it, and I have found no way to open it.Video Gamer X Replied:This is an easy one. Use the slingshot to trigger the eye. The slingshot is a good weapon to hit things that are far away. For instance, spiders can be difficult to reach on the wall, but with the slingshot you can hit them from afar. The Wohlleben Family Asks: How do you get the king fish to open his mouth? Video Gamer X Replied: The Jabu-Jabu fish will only open his mouth when you give him a fish. You must have a fish and to keep a fish you need a bottle. If you dove down in Lake Hylia to get the submerged message, then you have a bottle. You can purchase a fish in a bottle from the store in Zora's Domain. If you want to purchase you must have enough rupees. You can also get one for free by blowing up a boulder to the left near a brown tree near the drawbridge. There is a small pond with a fish swimming in it. Capture the fish with your empty bottle. Jason Asks:On death mountain I keep getting killed by the falling rocks on the nothern path. What do I do? Video Gamer X Replied:If you equip a Hylian Shield you will not be harmed by the falling rocks. It's best just to hold "R" until the avalanche stops. DragonLord Asks:I keep getting caught by the soldiers by the castle and I've tried everything. What's up. Video Gamer X Replied:I can't really show you the right path to take without a map but maybe I can help you. To get into the castle, first climb the vine on the wall by where Malon is standing. Go past the gate and drop down into path. Cut across the field between the two sets of soldiers. Go to the wall with vines on it and climb it. Fall into the moat. Swim to the small part where you can get out of the water in the corner. Go up to to Talon and show him the chicken. (If you want.) Move the blocks in the groove so that they fall into the water. Jump from the blocks to the ledge across the water and enter the little entrance with the triforce over it. It must be daytime for you to be able to proceed further. Avoid the soldiers by staying out of their field of vision. They're pretty stupid so just be careful and you should make it to Zelda's courtyard. it's best not to go for the rupees in the ground between the two hedges. Derrick Brown Asks: In the Dodongo Level there is a door that only opens when I step in the hole. When I get out of the hole it closes. I walked all around there but I can't get it. Help Please. Video Gamer X Replied: In Dodongo's Cavern you must push the switch down with a block from the adjacent room. Simply push the first block into the second block, and the second into the third until you see another block sitting in the groove to be pushed into the switch room. D man Asks: How do you get past king Zora to get to jabu-jabu? Video Gamer X Replied:To get past king Zora you must have Ruto's letter in a bottle. This is located at lake Hylia. There is a warp to Lake Hylia in Zora's Domain in the water where you first enter. You will have to dive to enter it. When you emerge in Lake Hylia you will see some rupees and an object in the water. Dive for it. This is Princess Ruto's letter in a bottle. Take this back to Zora's Domain and show it to king Zora. Peter Thurston Asks: Alright, how the hell do you get into death mountain for the second time when you are trying to get one of the medalions. I only have a small amount of time before I catch on fire....I didn't get the Goron Tunic when I was a kid...is there anywhere else I can get it and will it help??? Video Gamer X Replied:You must have an adult's Goron Tunic in order to enter this area. To get the tunic go to the abandoned Goron's City and there will be a rolling Goron moving about. Put a bomb in front of him and he will stop rolling. Talk to him and he will tell you what happened to the Gorons and give you an adult's Goron Tunic. With this item you can spend an indefinite period of time in the "Hot Rooms." David G Asks:How do I get to the Lake Hylia, there is a fence in the way. Video Gamer X Replied:There is a ladder obscured from view on the side of the stone wall to the right, or you can warp there if you fall into the river before Gerudo, or you can warp there from Zora's Domain. Don Thomas Asks:I haven't been able to find the magic beans. Can you help me out? Video Gamer X Replied:When you first enter Zora's River blow up the boulders with your bombs. Ignore the Chicken. There is a character chomping on something. He will tell you that you can buy magic beans from him. Each time you purchase them though they get more expensive. Use the magic beans to plant in soft spuare patches of earth scattered throughout Hyrule. Later on, after 7 years there will be a plant in these spots that you can ride to get to many secret areas. Dennis Warner Asks:Hi I am having trouble finding a empty bottle to put a fish in. Can you please tell me where one is. Video Gamer X Replied:At Lon Lon Ranch there is a room with many chickens and Talon in it. He will ask you to play a "find the super cuckco game." If you find all his super cuckoos in the time allotted you will be rewarded with a bottle of milk. You can use the milk to recover you life energy, and you can use the empty bottle to put a fish in. There is also a bottle located just past the submerged pillars in Lake Hylia. You can get one from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko if you find all her cuccos. Remember to use a cucco to drift over to the tall fence, drop it, and climb the fence. Throw all the cuccos over the ledge into the area where they can be carried to the pen. And also the Ghost Keeper outside of the Market has one if you catch 1000 points worth of Big Poes. D man Asks (Again):What is the deal inside of jabu-jabu? How do I kill the jellyfish without getting hurt? What do I have to do to get past the BLUE, RED, and GREEN slimy things? What do I have to do to get past the red looking tounge thing in the room that has water in the middle and pots on the other side? I know it's alot to answer, but please post all the solutions. P.S. Do you know where the bow is located? Video Gamer X Replied:You know I had 36 Jabu-Jabu questions today. C'mon folks it isn't that hard. Okay, here it goes. The Electrified Jellyfish are an annoyance until you get the boomerang. Lock onto the Jellyfish with "Z" and throw the boomerang. One hit takes 'em out. I'm not sure what you're trying to say about the RED, GREEN, and BLUE slimy things. I went back to the fish to look around for that but I didn't see it. The "tounge thing" is some kind of tenticle. You must lock on with the boomerang and continue firing the boomerang at it. You must keep moving in order to avoid being hit by the tenticle. The Bow is in the Forest Temple. See the Walkthrough for details. BANDON420 Asks:Hi, I have a question about zelda that has been plaguing me for days (seems like years). How do you obtain the song (melody) of the sun?? I know its in the graveyard, but I cannot find it! Please help! Thanks, Brandon. Video Gamer X Replied: The Song of the Sun is located in the graveyard underneath the Royal Tomb at the northmost tier of tombstones. Play Zelda's Lulliby and lighting will strike the tomb revealling a hidden passage. When you enter kill all the bats in the first room to open the door. In the next room watch out for the zombies. If they look at link, he will become entranced. Just push buttons to untrance him. Go to the back of the room and you will find a tomb with some writing and song on it. It is the song of the sun. SpazAtak Asks:I am in the Forest Temple and in your walkthrough you said I should push or pull the blocks so they fit but on the second block I can't seem to pull itout all the way. What do I do? Video Gamer X Replied:I got several of the same quesions about the blocks in the Forest Temple, and here's the answer: Walk around the corner and you will see the other side of the block. Instead of pulling it, push it. I got stumped for a few minutes on this one myself, so I can understand the confusion. This should help a lot of people out. RKing96655 Asks:Ok I am stuck in jabu jabu but I dont have a problem with the little jellyfish and such or the tentacles or the maze what i want to know is how to beat the guy they call an octopus but for reasons unknown to me looks like a hoover. its says attack him from behind, but when you get close enough he dissappears and hitting him with nuts stops him but not nearly long enough... Video Gamer X Replied:Yet another Jabu-Jabu question. Okay here it goes. To kill the big Octorok you must use the Boomerang to stun it. It will then start spinning around. Hit it again with the boomerang. When you see the green thingy sticking out of its a$$ then hit it with your sword. Repeat this process until victory. Apparently I omitted the Big Octo from the walkthrough so this should help some people stuck on this. Joey Medina Asks:What do the cows do? I keep trying to kill them by they just go Moooooos? Video Gamer X Replied: What the hell kind of question is that? I just had to post this so the whole world could see this guy's stupidity. Tony and Ghislaine Yergeau-Gale informed me that: Just for your information, if you go up to a cow and play epona's song with an empty bottle the cow gives you a full bottle of milk for free. Video Gamer X adds:Guess they didn't get the joke, huh? What do cow make? MILK! duh. RogueR Asks:In the fire palace there is a door by some lava flame that chases me. It's locked and I have'nt been able to get to it. There is a map in the room and another door but I can't get in that other door. Can you help? I ask for your help I am in the Fire Temple and am in the room with the chain link floor and the Joshua Robinson persistently inquires: I am in the Fire Temple and am in the room with the chain link floor and the fire wall I can't get to the locked door but the face in front of me makes a weird noise what am I supposed to do to get to the locked door?? Video Gamer X Replied:It seems the fire temple has been giving a lot of folks trouble. I added an extensive take-me-by-the-hand walkthrough of the Fire Temple for this reason. The answer to this question is a matter of simply jumping from the edge of the chain-link platform to the ledge where the door is. I don't know if this guy has the key yet, but it is a locked door if I remember correctly. It surprised me that Link could make the jump when I was there. That door will lead to a large room with a Fire Maze in it. Mike Campbell asks similarly:Hi, Ive been having some trouble in the fire temple at the room with the chain link platforms where there is a moving wall of fire, I cant seem to get up to the locked door that is on the elevated platform. I have tried everything I can think of, and I know I am going to feel like an idiot when I find out how...but I am stuck in a rut. Video Gamer X Replied: Here's another question about the same thing. Don't feel too bad, because it took me a little while to figure this out when I was there too. You see, it may not look like it but Link can jump from the corner of the chain-link platform to the ledge with the locked door on it. I remember it being near a pedistal with a recovery heart on top of it. It's simple and obvious, I guess that's why it tripped up so many gamers, including myself. Sam Cocke Asks:hey you keep talking about gamer x having more than 99 rupees but i can't get over 99 rupees what is the deal? Video Gamer X RepliedThis question has come up often so I will answer it right here and now. You must get the "Adult's Wallet" and "Giant's Wallet" to carry more rupees, and to get these you must go to the house of Skulltula in Kakariko Village. You will get the Adult Wallet after 10 skulltula spiders are destroyed, The Stone of Agony after 20, The Giant's Wallet after 30, etc. The Giant's Wallet holds 500 rupees. Ed Cartier Asks:Just wanted to ask you a question if you knew the answer, on your site it says that you get the song of storms in the graveyard, how? I already got the song of sun, but cant seem to find out how to get the song of storms, thanks. Video Gamer X Replied:You must approach the Music Man inside the windmill of Kakariko in the future to obtain the Song of Storms. Show him the ocarina and he will teach it to you, claiming that it was you who taught it to him. I had a lot of questions about the Song of Storms so now everyone can relax on this one. Joshua Robinson a.k.a. Ice_Cream_Man Asks:My question is this, I know that their are certain places you need to plant the magic beens and I have all the jewels, but I dont wan't to go to the future until I know i have done everything to make it much easier on me by doing the stuff I need as a kid. Could you please tell me the things I need to do. Video Gamer X Replied:Time travel is achieved by placing the master sword back into the stone after you complete the Forest Temple, so you won't have worry about not getting everything. You can get to the Temple of Time by playing the Prelude of Light that Sheik teaches you. While you're a kid you should travel around Hyrule and look for places to plant Magic Beans. Purchase all of them from the Bean Seller at Zora's River. In Future time many of these lead to heart container pieces. In the past you should look for any Gold Skutulla (Spiders of the Curse) that you may have missed in dungeons, in secret rooms, in cities, anywhere. There are few in Kakariko alone when you are a kid. Make sure you sell the masks. Enter places as a kid that adult Link cannot access. Blow up any boulders that are able to be destroyed. Wander around after you have the Stone of Agony and uncover secrets with the Rumble Pak. Adam Garcia Asks:I'm in the forest castle, I've got down the elevator to the basemant, but I don't know what to do next. How do I open the grate so I can get inside and press the switch? Video Gamer X Replied:In that room you must push against the wall on the metal brackets between the wall and the parts jutting from the wall. Push toward the bracket in a diagonal direction, this will cause the entire room to rotate to another position. Continue moving it in whatever direction you need in order to gain access to the three switches. Once you push the three switches you will gain access to the Boss' Room. I11011II1 (Yep that's his name, you tell me what it means in Binary) Asks:When I enter Death Mountain crater, there is a ledge with a boulder sitting on top of it. I have used huge amounts of bombs trying to blow it up, but it just won't give any. Is there some other way to enter death mountain crater to get to the broken bridges or am I just doing something wrong? Video Gamer X Replied:I answered this question because it came up so often. The rock can only be destroyed with the Megaton Hammer which is inside the Fire Temple, but since you haven't gotten there yet you don't have it. To get to the part of the Crater where the broken bridge is you must enter through Darunia's Throne Room. Move the throne (I think that's what it is) away from the wall to reveal a secret passage. Always remember RPG/Adventure Game Rule #1: If there is a king and he has a throne there is most likely something behind it. Greg Legowski and many others ask:I must be missing something obvious, but where's the bomb bag? Video Gamer X Replied:For those of you guys stuck at the beginning of the game, this has been one of the top questions asked in the past few days. I personally passed it myself when I first was In Dondongo's Cavern. The Bomb Bag is located in a chest in Dondongo's Cavern on some platforms above a room that has spiked metal things (traps?) moving underneath. In a few days I plan to revisit this part of the game in my Walkthrough, and all the questions about this stage should be then answered. BLinK of FaTe Asks:In the water palace there is a eye trigger and a screen blocking the way. How do I open it? I've tried everything. Video Gamer X Replied:To open the barrier that is stoping you from entering that corridor you must first lower the water to it middle or lower height, then you must take out your Bow and shoot the Eye Switch. This will cause the barrier to rise, but only for a very short time. On the other side is a recepticle for the Hookshot, but if you try to Hookshot to it, it won't reach. You will have to wait until you have the Longshot in order to cross the space in the time allotted. Nancy B. Johnson Asks:Where do I sell the skull mask? Video Gamer X Replied:To the Dancing Man in the Lost Woods. (You know, the guy that gave you a Heart Container Piece for playing a tune for him.) You're welcome everybody! Alot of people asked this question. C. D. Spencer Asks:How do I find the last fairy, the one with Nayru's Love? Video Gamer X Replied:I just added this to the Walkthough, but if you haven't read it yet, the Fairy of Magic that grants you Nayru's Love is behind a crack, between two palm trees near the Desert Colossus. CORKY (Life Goes On...Life Goes On...Da..Da..Da..Da..Da..Da..Da..) asks:How do I beat Shadow Link (Dark Link) in the Water Temple in order to get the Hookshot? I have tried for 4 days non-stop and he mimics every attack I have for him! Video Gamer X replied: Yeah, Shadow Link is a tough SOB sometimes, but to kill him you're going to have to be dilegent and patient. I recommend storing a few fairies in bottles before you tackle him. Your best strategy is to Lock on and keep slashing away, avoid downslashing if possible, 'cause you will become vulnerable. Sideslashing seems to do best. Charging your sword leaves you open for attack. Use your shield to block. If you're persistent and use a lot of fancy swordplay you will prevail. Some other methods that have been proposed by some people that visit this site include: Getting real close to him, underneath his defenses. Using Din's Fire to cause damage without getting hit. Another proposed method is to lock on and hit him with the Megaton Hammer. Bradley (Gunter) Ash Asks:Where are the 10 giant poes that you sell to the voodo guy as big link? There are normal poes in Hyrule field and in the graveyard, but he doesn't count those. Please tell me where the poes are so I can get the last bottle. It's the only item I need! Video Gamer X replied:In Hyrule Field you will encounter Big Poes. (They have a smiley face instead of a frown) While riding Epona shoot them when they appear with the arrow. Take the Big Poe to Ghost Keeper and he will buy it from and put 100 points on your card. If you have 1000 points, you will get a bottle. Patricia J. Fox Asks:Video Gamer X: You know those one-eyed things that "gaze into your soul", do you have any idea if they have any importance in the game? Video Gamer X Replied: When you hit those things with the sword it will say, "Boinng....The Current Time is XX:XX" If you have the Mask of Truth (which I explain how to get in the Walkthrough) all of these will communicate with you. Some will provide you will absolutely usless information to your quest, while others will give you a clue or secret. If you didn't already find out, you can play Zelda's Lulliby in front of one of these and make a fairy appear. Ashton Wiley Asks: How many gold spiders are there? What happens when you get all of them? Video Gamer X Replied: There are actually 100 Gold Skulltula Spiders (Spiders of The Curse) in Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. Unfortunately the big prize for killing all 100 is a lousy gold rupee worth 200 rupees. BIG DEAL! For all that wandering and hunting, you get virtually nothing. Its not even worth it to collect all the Gold Skulltula Coins, so don't waste your time. Then again...to say that you've actually mastered Zelda 64 then you had better get all of them. Qwifz (sounds like Kawiffz?) Asks: How do I get into Dodongo's cavern? I've tried almost everything. Please help me out here! Thanks!! I really need to know 'cause of the bomb bag inside!!!!!!!!! Video Gamer X Replied: OK! OK! I thought I answered this one before, but just in case I didn't here's the answer: There is a cliff overlooking the entrance to Dodongo's cavern that is sealed. If you have the Goron's Bracelet you can pick up the Bomb from the bomb flower and toss it over the ledge to the ravine below in front of Dodongo's Cavern. If you aim correctly you will hit it. While I'm here, I'll answer another question that has been appearing rather frequently lately. To get the Goron's Bracelet play Saria's Song in front of Darunia in his room. He will be so impressed by it he will give you the bracelet. You can now lift the Bombs from the bomb flower plants. Nancy B. Johnson Pleaded: I've begged and begged, would you PLEASE tell me how, in the Water Temple, to get to the hallway on the 2nd floor map that is not connected to the main corridor. I can't continue and I am going crazy because I don't know how to go there, and I check this site EVERY DAY. I check it hoping you update your Q and A, but you have not. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! Video Gamer X Replied: There's one thing about the Water Temple I have to say. My memory on the exact chain of events that lead to the solving of all the convoluted puzzles of the water temple is not that good. I made the Walkthrough so that I could provide a step-by-step descripion of how to solve these things. It is written in exactly the same order that I used to solve this area. Here are some tips concerning the Water Temple: You will have to take off and put on the Iron Boots frequently to sink and float in various areas. There are three Triforce Plaques that raise or lower the water, play Zelda's Lulliby in front of these. Use the Hookshot and (when you get it) Longshot to grapple onto the circular recepticles. Use the Hookshot to kill enemies underwater. In some rooms you will have to hit switches from afar closest to the object that is in someway changed by the switch. Be very observant of you surroundings, this includes walls and the map. Usually if you hit a dead end then the solution is in that room somewhere or just above that room. Keep an eye on Navi. When she turns green she's telling you something about that spot. Most important, don't get frustrated. Frustration can take the fun out of the game. Michael Bailey Asked: Ok, here's the deal....I got the Pocket egg (in future) and it hatched into a pocket chicken. Know what do I do with the chicken? The girl will not take it back...and I tried to wake up the man siting in front of the stump in the lost woods...but it didn't work. What is going on?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!HELP!!!!! Video Gamer X replied: Oops...you goofed! You have to wake Talon in Kakariko with the Pocket Cucco. If you do this, you can go back to the Cucco Lady and she will give you Cojiro. That cucco will wake the man in the Lost Woods. Mitch Asks: I was just starting this game and was wondering. How the heck do I get items that are out of reach? For example. the gold skullota on the second floor window of Talons house (the horse ranch at night). How do I get this? Video Gamer X replied: As young link you can obtain items that are out of reach with the Boomerang located in Jabu-Jabu. You will have to lock on to the item (Skulltula Coin) with "Z". As adult Link the Hookshot does the same thing. Liddle Timbawolfy Asks: You must be really annoyed by now, but I swear these are my two last questions. First, where is the marathon runner in hyrule field who I sell the bunny mask to, and how do I put the master sword in the stone at the temple of time? Please answer me, Video Gamer X replied: You should find the Marathon Runner in the western part of Hyrule Field as a kid. Follow him until nightfall when he takes a break, then and only then will you be able to sell the bunny ears mask to him. He will give you many Rupees for doing this. Now that you have sold the Bunny Mask go to the Mask Shop and get the Mask of Truth. To travel back in time from the future you must have already completed the Forest Temple. Go to the Temple of Time. You will meet Sheik there. He will teach you the Prelude of Light. He will also step aside and let you put the master sword back in the stone to travel back in time. I had thought that I already answered this somewhere on the site, but I keeps being asked so frequently.
