Family Colletidae Lapeletier

The family occurs on all continents but more diversified in Australian and South American continents. In the holarctic region only two genera namely Colletes and Hylaeus  are known. Important publications that should be consulted regarding phylogeny of this family are Michener and Brooks (1984) and Michener (1992). Larvae were described by McGinley (1981) and pupal characters were tabulated with emphasis on differences among subfamilies by Torchio and Burwell (1987).
