Hamlet
Act II

In Act II we open to see the corruptness of Polonius. We find him setting up a plot to spy on Laertes in France. Polonius tells Reynaldo to spread some rumors about Laertes and when Laertes can prove them wrong, he looks all the better.
In the same scene Ophelia gets a glimpse of Hamlet's madness. Ophelia reports to Polonius that Hamlet came into her room and touched her face at arms length then ran away. Polonius gathers from this encounter that Hamlet's madness stems from his forbidden love for Ophelia and rushes her to the king to share his findings.
Scene II, the second and final scene of Act II, introduces us to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The king tells them to observe Hamlet.
The ambassadors return from Norway with a good report of their mission to stop Fortinbras, after which, Polonius shares his theories of Hamlet's madness. They then develop a plan to observe Hamlet with Ophelia.
Hamlet meets up with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern but realizes that they are obviously spying for Claudius. They return home and a company of players arrive. Hamlet feels that he needs to prove to himself that Claudius is guilty seeing as that the effect of the ghost has worn off and Hamlet is beginning to doubt himself.
