The History Of Middle Earth

Tolkien spend more time creating Middle Earth with its languages, landscapes and people than writing the actual book. His never-ending fantasy brought us a world which can only be seen as real, and the feel of reality of the scenery gives the story its depth. On this page youll be able to find a map of Middle Earth together with the most important dates of its history and of course all information you need on Frodo and the Fellowships Quest. For more information please email us or take a look at our credits page.
WARNING : The History on this page is a mix of Tolkiens vision and the information from the LOTR movie. This site contains spoilers of New Line Cinemas forthcoming films The Two Towers and The Return Of The King. If you dont want to know how the story continues, dont read any further! When the following movies appear the information on this site might change due to the fact that the dates in the films and the dates in the book do not agree all the time.

Gandalf arrives back in Hobbiton, telling Frodo about the evil powers of the One Ring. The hobbit and his servant Sam leave to Bree, where Gandalf is waiting for them. In the meantime Gandalf decides to pay a visit to Saruman the White in Isengard and asks him for his opinion about the Ring. Saruman however has turned into Saurons counsellor and thinks hes able to share in the power of the Dark Lord. He captures Gandalf and keeps him locked in Orthanc.
Frodo and Sam meet up with Merry and Pippin and they have a first encounter with the Nazgul. They are able to make it safely to the Inn of the Prancing Pony in Bree, hoping to meet Gandalf there. Instead of meeting the wizard there they meet a dark stranger with the name of Strider. Frodo makes a huge mistake to put the Ring on in the company of the visitors of the Inn and Strider decides to help the hobbits, knowing about the One and the dangerous mission since hes a friend of Gandalf. He protects them from a nightly attack of the Nazgul.

They make it to Rivendell just in time. Strider confesses his true name, Aragorn, Isildurs heir and rightful King of the throne of Gondor. Elrond in the meantime decides to organize a meeting between the leaders of the different nations of Middle Earth to come up with a solution for the Ring since Sauron knows the One is in Rivendell. There the Fellowship of the Ring is formed. The nine, including Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, Aragorn, the Elven Prince Legolas, the Dwarf Gimli and the Man Boromir, are on a quest to destroy the Ring in the fires of Mount Doom.
