As a Community Leader working with WebTV'ers, I realized that the biggest question is how to get images and sound files into the file manager. This page will attempt to explain the tools used to do just that.
First, be sure to put the Extractor on an F-key. It uses the automatic fill-in for URLs. If you don't have room on any F-keys, that is ok, you can still use the tool. You'll just need to know its URL: http://transload.starblvd.net/hex.shtml
Once you find a site that has images or sounds you want, hit the F-key, or type in the URL for the Extractor. Once you get to the page, the first thing you should look for is an image at the top left of the page that says "HEX OK". If you see this, the Extractor is not busy, and you should be able to use it with no problems. You will also see the following:
Last Visited URL
a raindrop image
Source URL
In the box after "Last Visited URL" you will see a URL. If you've gone to the Extractor directly from the page that has the files you want, the URL should be here. If it is, click the raindrop image below, and the URL will automatically drop down to the "Source URL" line. If the URL is not the one with your files, disregard the raindrop image, and just type the URL in the "Source URL" line. The "Source URL" line is the one the Extractor will be using, so be sure the correct URL is always in this line.
Once you've done that, click the button that says "Extract". You will be brought to a page that says your Session was issued, and you will be transferred to your Status Report. Once you're at the Status page, you will need to Reload the page until you see a big "ZAP" button at the bottom of the page. Once you see that, the tool has done its job.
This is how to interpret the Extractor's results: You will see the type of the file--Image, Hyperlink, or Embeded Object. (Embeded Objects are usually sounds.) You will see [P] for Images, and [X] for Hyperlinks. You will also see URLs. If you want to check to be sure that an image is the one you want, just click the [P] next to it. If it is the right image, click the Back button on your keyboard, then click the URL next to the [P] and you will automatically be taken to the Transloader, with the correct information for that image filled in. NOTE: TRANSLOADER INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
If the file you want is a sound, you cannot preview the sound, but the filename in the URL listed should help you tell if it's the right file. Use the URL next to the "Embeded Object" to transload the sound file.
When you are done getting all the files you want from this results page, please scroll all the way down to the bottom and click the "ZAP" button. This will clear all your info from the system, so that others may use it. Please note that if you use the Transloader along with the HTML Extractor, you must "ZAP" resources for both the Transloader AND the Extractor.
Go to Eudoramail at http://www.eudoramail.com. Open up an account and look around. Once you are familiar with the way Eudoramail is set up, you are ready to use it to isolate your files.
When you are ready, forward the e-mail with the attached image or sound to your account at Eudoramail. Then go to Eudoramail and open up your inbox, and click on the e-mail to open it. If the file you want is an image, you will do the following: You will see buttons along the top of the page; click the one that says "download". (It may show up as "do..." or even just "d...". If it shows up as just "d..", there will probably be another "d..."--the one you want is the second one.) On the next page you will see "Download Mail Components". Somewhere under this will be the filename of your image in blue. Click it. This should bring up just your image. If it does, send it to the Transloader! NOTE: TRANSLOADER INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
If the file from your e-mail is a sound file, you will see a box in the content of your e-mail when you open it in Eudoramail. This box will list the name, size, and type of the file. The name of the file will be in blue. Click it. The sound file should then play. Then click the "GoTo" button on your WebTV keyboard. Then click "Show Last". It will show the URL of your sound file--WRITE the URL down, be sure not to make any mistakes. This URL will look different from other URLs--that is ok, it is correct. Once you have written the URL down, go to the Transloader. The URL will then be typed into the "Source URL" line of the Transloader. NOTE: TRANSLOADER INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
The transloader is located at http://transload.starblvd.net. You will want to put this site on an F-key, but if you can't, you can still use it.
Once you have your file isolated, go immediately to the Transloader. If you see an image in the top left corner that says "TL OK", the Transloader is not busy, and can be used. If you see a "Busy" image, just come back again in a few minutes. You will see the following: (Please note, you will see other areas, but do not worry about them. The ones I have listed here are the only ones you need to fill out.)

If you have come to the Transloader directly from your isolated image, its URL will be automatically filled into "Last Visited URL". If it is, click the raindrop image, and that URL will transfer down to "Source URL". If you did not come directly from your image, just disregard the raindrop image, and type in the correct URL for it in the "Source URL" line.
Sometimes the filename to your graphic isn't something that you will be able to know what it is when you see it. For this reason, you can rename the filename before you transload it. Say the image filename is "image03.gif". The image is of a clown, so you could rename the image to "clown.gif". Rename it to anything that will help you remember what the file is. Just be sure to keep the extension the same. If it is a .gif, rename it to .gif; if .jpg, rename to .jpg, etc. If you do not want to rename the file, just skip over this line.
Target FTP Server: this is where you will type ftp.geocities.com
Target Account Name: this is where you will type your GeoCities membername.
Target Account Password: this is where you will type your GeoCities password.
Upload Directory: this is where you will type where your homepage is located in GeoCities. For example, my homepage is http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/4278/. I would type the following in that line: /Heartland/Meadows/4278/ (Be sure to put the slashmarks before AND after.)
Once you are done typing in all the above info, click on the button that says "Transload". You will be taken to a page that says your Session has been issued. You will then automatically be taken to your Status Report. The page will show more and more information as you reload it, until you see the "ZAP" button at the bottom of the page. If all went well, your file is now in your file manager! Sometimes something goes wrong--usually it is because the FTP at GeoCities is down. If that is the case, your Status Report will tell you that. When your Session is over, please click on the "ZAP" button to clear the system of all of your information, and make it usuable for someone else.
