James Taylor With a career that spans more than thirty years, it's no great surprise that James Taylor's musical influence has reached just about every corner of the globe. Janis Joplin June 11, 1966-- Janis Joplin sings onstage with Big Brother and the Holding Company for the first time at San Francisco's Avalon Ballroom. She was 23 at the time! July 25, 1968-- Big Brother and the Holding Company release their most successful album, Cheap Thrills.
Jefferson Airplane August 13, 1965-- Marty Balin, got together musicians , Paul Kantner, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Skip Spence, and vocalist Signe Toly Anderson. They made a stage debut at Balin's new Matrix Club in San Francisco. Later in the year they will gain national recognition as first San Francisco rock group to sign a major recording contract.
Jeff Beck The JEFF BECK GROUP made their debut on March 3, 1967 at Finsbury Park, London (now called The Rainbow Theatre). The lineup was: Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Rod Coombes (drums) and Ron Wood (bass). The JBG made it's American debut at the Fillmore East in New York City on June 14, 1968. They opened up for the Grateful Dead. Here in web form are eight "fanzines" dedicated totally to Jeff Beck. Jethro Tull Ian Anderson began his musical career as a blues vocalist.---"I quickly became dissatisfied with what we were doing. I found it hard to go on stage and convincingly be a polite shade of black. What really got me was that I was singing something that was essentially stolen. And it wasn't just stealing music, it was stealing somebody's emotions and point of view, almost pretending to have an awareness of what it means to be black."~ Ian Anderson.
