EARTH:
The  Earth dragon balls are small; yellow with orange stars. At first, they can only grant one wish, but by the close of DBZ, the earth dragon balls can grant three. When all seven balls are collected, the wisher must summon Shenron -- Earth's eternal dragon. After the wish is made, the balls scatter over the entire earth and can not be gathered again for a year. Time and time again, the dragon balls bail the Z team out of some sort of catastrophe [But are the cause of a major problem in DBGT]. As the series goes on, *updates* are made to the earth's set, now a person can be ressurected more than once, etc.
NAMEK:
The Namek dragon balls are much larger in size than the earth or dark star balls. These balls are yelow with orange stars, as the Earth set is. When gathered, Porungo is summoned by a phrase spoken in Namekian ONLY. These dragon balls grant three wishes, instead of just one -- an interesting benefit discovered by the Z team during the conflict on Namek vs. Freeza.
DARK STAR:
The dark star dragon balls are only in DBGT. The stars on these dragon balls are black, instead of orange. They were made by Kami BEFORE Piccolo Daimou split from him. So, the dark star dragon balls are much more powerful than either of the other two sets. Lord Pilaf, inadvertently, wishes Goku young again. After the wish is made, the dragon balls spread out over the entire galaxy.
