DARA SINGH - A PRISIONER OF INJUSTICE

Framed For The Murder Of Arul Doss

Dara Singh's name has also been linked to the alleged murder of Arul Doss, the Christian missionary from Tamil Nadu.  It is said he used to often visit the village Jamabani, a small remote tribal hamlet situated in tribal dominated Northern Orissa.  Before the tragic incident Arul Doss had converted 6 Hindu tribal families to Christianity out of a total of about 70 Hindu families of the village.  He continued to convert more Hindus to bring them into the Christian fold, the local inhabitants alleged.  According to the villagers, Arul Doss and his followers behaved in a manner which sort to degrade and denigrate the native culture and ethos, tradition and lifestyle. They were also allegedly involved in imposing their political ideas on the innocent tribals.  It is rumoured that before the unfortunate incident Arul Doss and some newly converted Christians had arranged a party in which Beef and liquour were served.  They were also seen dancing with young tribal girls.  According to reports state director general of police, Dilip Mahapatra, also confirmed that the conversion of innocent tribals and religious conflicts seemed to be the main reason for killing of Arul Doss.  We have come to know from local villagers that the priest was involved in several illegal conversions in violation of the Orissa Freedom of religion act 1967. We have got a number of complaints and evidence that the priest of Anantpur Roman Catholic church (Keonjhar District) regularly goes to remote villages for illegal conversion of tribals.  He has been indulging in the nefarious activity for the last five years, Shri Mahapatra has reported to have told the press.
