The Journey Begins in this fantastic first installment in the trilogy. Director Peter Jackson brings the characters and world of J.R.R. Tolkien's source novel to a vivid screen life that has never been seen in film before. When it is discovered that a simple little ring will determine the fate of the world, a quest to destroy it begins. The ring can only be destroyed in one place--the fires of Mount Doom--where it was made. With the Ring of Power out in the open, the power of its creator grows, as does the number of evil forces trying to stop the ring-bearer from reaching his destination. For once in my life, I must say that each version of the film deserves five stars. While I do prefer the original theatrical version, the extended edition gives the viewer more of what he craves--a deep, vivid understanding of the world and creatures of Middle-Earth. Granted, some scenes in the extended edition are redundant, but it is still a work of art.
Rated PG-13 for epic battle sequences and some scary images.
