5/27/03 - District play vs Sioux City East
I am telling you the grays are coming in more and more.  Tonight we traveled to Sioux City to play Sioux City East in the Second round of Districts.  We left earlier today to try to have a little more time before the game.  Not so sure it worked, we started out well and were controlling the game but about eighteen minutes into the game they score first and we are wondering what just happened.  The first half ends and we are down one.   At half time I am trying to talk to them but I am so mad that I finally say, "Look, just slow it down, posses, and play our game.  This is now put up or shut up time boys".  They came out in the second half planning on defending their lead.  We came out and starting passing the ball and moving it around.  We were controlling the game and it was working.  Time after time we would get a shot on goal but like the past it just wouldn't go in the net.  Finally twelve minutes into the second half Jesse Smith cross's the ball to Luke Thomsen about twenty five yards out and he hammers it home.  The keeper didn't even know it was in the net.  Jesse now needs three more assists to tie the carreer record for assistis at twenty four.  We continue to dominate the play as East really didn't make any attempt to attack at all.  Finally with seven minutes left in the game Luke Thomsen sends Josh Grosvenor down the middle and Josh finds himself one on one against the keeper.  My money is on Bubba.  The keeper comes out and Josh puts it in the left corner and we go up 2-1.  East attempts to attack now but we put in the Dog, Keith Damgaard and shut down the middle and send everything they come with the other way.  Tonight our defense played another great game, Seth Jackson, Zach Paulon, and Dan Gulden.  They turned everything around the other way after the first goal.  John Harvey, Josh Probst, and Josh Grosvenor stepped it up as well.  Pat Powers played tough up front but came away empty handed again tonight.  Look for him to show up on Thursday.  Our bench really stepped up tonight, they went in when called on and played very well.  Bobby Durand, Doug Junior, Joel Edwards, & Dan Fischer gave me everything they had when we needed them.  Bobby was determined and Doug continued to win any 50/50 ball that was in his area.  We won but once again it wasn't pretty and it wasn't our best.  One more one point game.  We are now 11-5, fourteen of these games are by one point, win or lose. Sioux City North beat TJ tonight 3-0.  We will travel back to Sioux City again on Thursday for a rematch and to play for the District Championship against Sioux City North.  The game will be at Riverside again at 6:30.  Come help up out and cheer us on one more time and help vault us to State.  The winner Thursday will advance to the State tournament next weekend.  Do or die, put up or shut up boys.
