Map of London showing main gay areas

Overview of the Main Gay Areas:

  • Central Area: the most concentrated gay area forms a crescent in the so called "West End", extending from the area around Tottenham Court tube, down and across to the historic and vibrant Soho district, and on to  Charing Cross station - I have split this into three maps, but all the bars in these areas are in walking distance of each other.

  • Earl's Court:  if you fly into Heathrow, and travel into London on the Piccadilly tube line, you will pass through this area. The gay scene here is much smaller than the central area, but is self contained and varied - three bars (although each are worth visiting at different times), a good club, a couple gay hotels, a couple of gay restaurants, and a couple of gay shops. Lots of gay Londoners live in this area and it also has a village feel.

Tube stations:
1 Earls Court
2 Victoria
3 Charing Cross
4 Green Park
5 Piccadilly
6 Leicester Square
7 Tottenham Court Rd
8 Embankment
9 Waterloo
10 Vauxhall
  • Vauxhall: this is South of the river, and about midway between the Earls Court and the West End. This is not an area to stay, but you may want to visit it in the evening (for the bars), or later for the clubs which can be very good.
