Gym 1200-2100 Mon-Fri, 1200-1800 Sat and Sun. Tottenham Court map In the subway which accesses Tottenham Court tube station. Tel (0)20 7240 6880 Small gay gym close to Tottenham Court tube stations, and which offers the usual range of exercise equipment and weights. Not luxurious, but good enough. Despite what it says on the door, I believe that non-members pay just £5 for a workout and shower (and not £7). Qualified instructors are available, as are sunbeds at around £5 a session. It's a bit tricky to find so here are directions: if you arrive by tube at Tottenham Court tube, pass through the ticket barriers and head for exit 5 (ask a member of staff if you are not sure which exit is which). You will end up going along a subway and you will see the word "Gym" on the wall in big letters on your left - you can't miss it, it is 8 foot across. Immediately to the right of the sign is a flight of steps up towards street level - the entrance is a few steps up on the left. Top Chariots

Earls Court Gym 0630-2200 Mon-Fri, 1000-2200 Sat, 1000-1800 Sun. Earls Court map 254 Earls Court Rd, SW5. Tel (0)20 7370 1402 Earls Court tube Non-gay gym close to Earls Court Station (Earls Court Rd exit). This is very popular with the local community of Muscle Marys, who go to huff and puff in the cruisy atmosphere. It is larger and posher than Centrepoint Gym, although that is reflected in the price. It has an extensive range of equipment. Non members can buy a day pass to use the gym for £8 (£6 before 1700 of a weekday), £6/£5 for aerobics only, or £11/£8 for gym and aerobics. Towels can be hired for just under £1. Sunbeds £7.50 Top Goslings
Swimming Group Pleasuredrome
Central Sauna (Waterloo) At weekends, Pleasuredrome (Waterloo) comes into its own in the early hours of the morning - when men drift out of the clubs in central London, and walk across the Thames to enjoy a sauna and whatever - until the tube trains start at around 0530, (or 0700 on Sunday morning). Once I had to queue for 20 minutes to get in at 4 am because it was full! There are lots of nice hygenic wipe-clean mattresses to grab some rest - but take your earplugs as they seem to turn up the piped music at night - and it can be DEAFENING. Top

![]() when you arrive by tube at Waterloo, follow the signs up to the to the mainline station which is directly above the tube. From the concourse, take the exit opposite platform 5, going down the escalators and out onto Waterloo Road. Once on the road, turn left, and you will see a pub - 'the Wellington' which is fifty yards up on the opposite side of the road. Alaska street runs down the left hand side of the pub, under the railway arch - the sauna is about 70 yards along on the right. |
