FROM DAGGIT TO DUKATS

DAGGIT A dog-like animal native to the Colonies. Daggits were domesticated by the Colonials and kept as pets. All were left behind during the escape from the Cylon destruction; one drone replica of a daggit, Muffit, exists.

DAGGIT DRIVEL Derisive term used by Lucifer in response to Specter’s ridiculous reports from Attila (YL).

DAMON (Randy Stumpf) Frizzy-haired, wimpy Celestra crewman who plotted mutiny against Commander Kronus in revenge for 16 centare shifts; he and a small group of other crewmen intended to steal a shuttle and settle a habitable planet. However, the long shifts and other cruelties were not Kronus’ but were arranged by his executive officer, the over-ambitious Charka, who used Damon and his fellows’ frustration to start a mutiny he could profit from. Damon is in love with Aurora and was jealous when Starbuck reappeared. Starbuck had to explain to him in words of one syllable that the relationship between him and Aurora was over and that Damon would be stupid to alienate her by his display of jealousy (TC).

DEATHPOINT The temperature at which diethene-contaminated air turns liquid (GI).

DEATHSTONE Colonial equivalent of our tombstone. Apollo threatened to inscribe “We’re Rich!” as Starbuck’s epitaph on his deathstone (LP).

DECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS When removed from their ship the passengers of the Lunar Seven shuttle had to be housed in decompression chambers because the atmosphere aboard the Galactica was too dense for them to comfortably breathe (GE).

DECONTAMINATION After patrol, warriors must enter the decontamination chambers, small booths in which they are exposed to various radiations intended to destroy any dangerous organisms they may have picked up (LG).

DEEP PATROL Long patrols regularly sent out from the Galactica to explore space around the fleet, usually consisting of two vipers. Some are so long that pilots take sleep periods during them.

DeitraDEITRA, LIEUTENANT (Sheila DeWindt) One of the shuttle pilots trained as combat pilots after the mysterious disease transmitted by Boomer and Jolly afflicted most of the Galactica’s viper pilots, a level-headed and extremely competent young woman (LG). Although Deitra unfortunately made no further credited appearances in the series—she would have been an excellent addition as a recurring pilot—she was seen in several episodes in stock viper launching scenes. In a scene in the script not used in the episode, it’s revealed that Deitra is in fact a shuttle pilot from the Atlantia who was making a run when the Cylon ambush occurred.

DELPHIAN EMPIRE Gamoray was the capital of the Delphian Empire, conquered and destroyed by the Cylons. Evidently known of by the Colonials, as Adama clearly knows what Cain is talking about when he mentions Gamoray (LL).

DELTA CLASS PLANET According to Boomer, Attila is a Delta class planet (YL). Possibly the Colonial term for ‘habitable planet,’ equivalent to Star Trek’s class M planet.

DELTA NINER False vector Apollo led the Cylon patrol following him onto; it was a ruse to lead the Cylons away from the fleet (LW).

DELTA VECTOR Vector the Recon Viper will follow to reach Alpha Six quadrant, according to CORA (LP).

DELTA QUADRANT Quadrant of space in which a mysterious object periodically appeared on the Galactica’s scanners when the fleet was in the Void. Starbuck, Apollo, and Serina launched to check out the contact, and Starbuck was captured by Cylons (LG).

DESTROYER 2 The Eastern Alliance destroyer that patrols the Lunar Seven area. Commandant Leiter believed its crew to be incompetent (GE).

DIABOLES Apollo referred to Iblis as Diaboles when he was attempting to force Sheba to recognize Iblis for what he was, an evil being (WG). Probably a name of a demon or Satan-equivalent from the Book of the Word.

DIETHENE A poisonous gas present in the atmosphere of Arkta, it raises the freezing temperature of air to the point where it can easily become a liquid (GI).

DINNER SERVICE When the security men she had called buzzed at the door, Brenda told the suspicious ‘Charlie’—actually Apollo—that it was her “dinner service;” after all, she’s always too tired to cook (ET).

DIPPER (Eric Server) Sire Bogan’s number 1 flunky, Dipper is a subservient type who wears a peculiar hat and smokes small cigars in a fancy looped holder. He and his pal Duggy stole the energizer from Starbuck and Boomer. Best known for his famous line, “Bogan! The MOOOON’S up!” (MW).

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDALLION The medal awarded to Commander Kronus for his many yahrens of service. A golden medal on a red ribbon worn around the neck (TC).

DMITRI, CAPTAIN Captain of the Livestock Ship. Chameleon pretended to be Captain Dmitri when he conned the Borellian Nomen.

DOMRA, SIRE (John Hoyt) A leading council member at the time of “Baltar’s Escape,” he seemed to be instigator of the Council decision to retire Adama, rescind the State of Emergency that had existed in the fleet since the holocaust, and negotiate with the Alliance Enforcers.

DONNER (Lester Fletcher) One of the Eastern Alliance Enforcers aboard Leiter’s ship (GE).

DOYLE (Gary Vinson) Hired hand of the Morlands, he used to be custodian of the underground maze beneath the city on Paradeen (GE).

DRONE Colonial term for robot. Although the Colonials have some robots they are very limited and stupid, the Colonials having learned from the example of the reptilian Cylons that they cannot allow their machinery to take over (P).

DUDS When Doyle first saw Apollo, he remarked that his “duds,” or clothes, were unfamiliar (GE).

DUGGY (Dennis Fimple) One of Dipper’s cronies on Serenity, he helped Dipper steal Siress Belloby’s energizer from Starbuck and Boomer; he was later involved in the card game with Starbuck (MW).

DUKATS or DUCATS Colonial term for tickets. Cassiopiea had dukats for a spheroid concert (TC). Chameleon fooled the Canaris ticket taker into thinking he’d given him a dukat when he hadn’t (MN).
