in the light of the candle's flicker

2am and traffic has slowed down
to a wee trickle
The hum of the refrigerator
is answered by
the croak
of a lone frog.
Even the crickets seem to be sleeping.

I see a flicker.
Its the lights
on the man in the basement apartments tv
you know,
the red-headed guy
with the
frizzy hair
and a daughter
that spends weekends with him.

Sometimes,
my candle flickers
its silent reply
to the tv.
We are strangers
living a few hundred feet apart,
walking down
our own little paths,
forging past
while the world slowly goes bye

The river of life
lazily drifts along
like soldiers in a military academy
we are unable to break rank
to smile,
and say "good morning"
share a moment of our time...

Shadow on the wall

Caught my reflection
on the wall tonight.
It was a classic "me" pose
Ive fallen into these past
forty some-odd years.

Its a comfortable place;
hair hangs aimlessly
curling here and twisting there
yet still, somehow
straight
bangs - overgrown
naturally parting
in the middle.

Ive got my "Huh?" face on.
Most of you have probably seen it-
It blossoms occasionally
when I slow down a few steps
relax
celebrate being in touch
with the birds that frequent the feeders,
the neighbors dog,
the wandering cat,
the antics of the baby squirrels,
who live in the hollowed-out mighty oak tree
that stands off to the southeast...
the groundhog
You know:
the one who got his
head stuck
in the rusty old can
and stopped traffic one day
till somebody stopped
and took it off

He lives
in a hole
near the bottom of the tree.
The mallards:
lovingly making their nest
in the pond
the honeymooners, that seem to relish
each moment they spend together,
fluttering about
doing their own private dances
amongst the walls of green,
now blooming.

A mother calls
to her fussy baby.
Her names Alex,
like my own beautiful grandbaby,
off far away, with her mother.

The cycles of life
move ever onward,
the rhythm of life,
grooving to its beat.

There are times
to turn inward,
to reflect,
to smile
and LAUGH
and YES! Even stop
to smell the flowers.
Time
to do a STUPID search on alta vista,
and hear all those natural rhythms of life
and time to laugh,
all the way from your belly!

1984

I am Ms. Jane Doe.
You can find me at messageboards.com.
I splash my life
most openly
upon the [pages] of cyberspace.

Emotionally, I pose
NUDE
before you
innocent and vulnerable
soul, heart, all bare
My secrets are yours.

You know
my personal hygiene habits
(if you so desire!)
my particular tastes
in music
and the arts
my soapbox derbies of subjects
that fire my motors
and bring me
out of the closet
ready to go twelve rounds [or more].

What sort of "footprint" do I leave,
my Big Brother?
Will I be hunted by the CIA, or FBI, or NYPD?
The NRA, DEA, or PTA?
Its a bit late,
but I think its finally 1984.

Rag Doll

my soul
is a tortured
prison
It comes to me
in sleep
playing games with me
having its way
with me
letting me know
I'll never REALLY
be free.

no matter how far
or how long I run
I cannot escape it
no matter how hard
I try to put the
pieces of me
back together
it always comes back
to let me know
is is not me who has
control...

Master of the Machine

You know you have the ability
to fix me
or fuck me up,
if so you choose

like Gepetto
to my Pinnochio
it's YOU who holds
the strings
pushes the buttons
makes me lie
like a rag doll
devoid of all
or makes me dance
and come to life

a master of your trade,
you can hide the strings
so no-one can see them
and yet
they are there
always
those invisible strings
with which you play me
lik your puppet...

Capicola You came to me in the deli case somewhere between the hard salami and capicola I saw you again in the asparagus and the artichoke so ripe to run my teeth over. I wanted to laugh and cry. 2/3/01

Re-Birth of the Phoenix

A Promise of Joy

Morning at the Wood Ranch

Morning at the Wood Ranch
the fog lingers,
clinging to the highest branches
of the oak trees
stripped bare for winter
naked, and deep in hibernation;
awaiting the dawning of spring.

Our bodies entwined
flesh on flesh
warm and flowing
Our souls merge
at first gently - like a warm summer breeze
and barely a whisper,
then thrashing and crashing
to the beat of music of our own creation.

Our love joins --
a warm and wet mark in time
its smell and taste
solitary
and unique
and ours, alone.

While tongues mingle
in their elusive dance of love,
our eyes meet,
in a union all their own
forging their own bonds
exploding in ways our bodies cant.

Heart and soul, we are joined
in a marriage of body and mind
twisting and bending
to each others twists and turns
filling the cracks
and patching the holes
making US whole and complete
and alive.

Rock my World

Baby
You rock my world
turn the light on
in my dark room
leave bread crumbs
on my path
through life's forest
so I might find
my way
to the shore
where waters tickle my toes
and endless horizons
kiss the starlit skies;
where gentle breezes
join the rhythmic beat of waves;
the melody of nature
frolicing
in the morning sun.
Sea, 1-00

Dance With Me

Dance with me across moonlit skies
the stars twinkling
in silent splendor
flowing gowns
of white lace
sparkle
in the twilight.

Our eyes meet
and sparks
of many colors fly
across
the black of night
blazing a trail
like a soaring meteor
across
the miles.
Sea, 1-11-00

Drink me In

Drink of my juices
and nourish your soul.
Your love makes me flourish
your love makes me whole.
Tomorrow's a rainbow
created today
and its colors
are nurtured
from feelings relayed.
So let's paint a rainbow
all shiny and new
and rejoice in our happiness,
capture love true.
Tomorrows are many
regrets will be few
and our joys will be many
with promise anew.
Sea, 1-13-00

Wings

Wings for to fly with
we frolic and play
Your love makes my heart sing;
delight in my day
When night falls upon us
held tight in your arms
I live far from fear
and from hurt and from harm
and ever so gently,
as I go to sleep
I whisper your name out
then smile, and retreat.
Sea, 1-13-00

Walk Lightly

Walk lightly
so that I might savor your footsteps
the sound they make
upon damp and musty earth
splashing through mountain streams
crunching as you cross
the gravel of the driveway.

Time rolls past
like waves upon the shore
and stops for noone;
neither you nor I
saint nor sinner.

When ours passes
all that remains
are our deeds,
and it's here where we'll
be remembered
as shining examples
or fateful villians
and worshipped, or scorned.
Sea, 1/00

echoes in the twilight
Its amazing
what I see:
this man
thats standing
next to me
inside a suit
with matching tie
a million different facets lie

I see the face
that all can see
of this man
walking next to me:
the businessman
but SO much more;
a poet, genius, cynic, whore

beneath him lies
another face, another man,
in another place -
the man with whom
I share lifes hand
with hidden valleys, hidden springs,
secret longings, secret dreams

this tender side, this awesome dad,
the pride, the hurt, the freak, the sad
the man, the boy, the warrior fierce -
inside him lies a heart thats pierced.

And when we walk
upon the street
and see the people that we greet
who know of him in the harsh daylight,
yet miss the man
whose shadow echoes in the twilight,
I feel so very much enriched
I get to share his entire dish!
