"God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion."
--Homer Simpson (#100, 1994)

Sometimes,
When you take a STAND,
You STAND Alone...

Like me, my beliefs, are an eclectic mix. I was fortunate to have not been brainwashed with religion at a young age. I am a virtual melting-pot of beliefs, having piece-mealed together something I refer to as being a "devout" atheist. I believe strongly in what I believe, although at times it seems to conflict/contradict itself. That's probably because I, like YOU, DON'T KNOW IT ALL!

I believe we are all gods, with "powers" we seldom make use of.
Like a muscle of any sort, these can be exercised and strengthened. And I believe we are all brothers and sisters of the earth; black and white, rich and poor, good and evil. I believe we should be good to one another. I do not love my "enemy", although ideally, I wouldn't have any. I believe we all have the capacity for both good and evil (and that few are completely evil...)

I believe Jesus was a great, if misunderstood, teacher, trying to tell his brothers and sisters of the planet how we are ALL capable of more than what appears on the surface.

I believe in the ten commandments, and the golden rule...not because Moses was ceremoniously handed them personally on stone tablets by god himself, but because they are a good way to live your life.

I believe inner strength can only come from within each of us.There is nobody there to pray to. If we don't have the inner strength to pull ourselves along the path of life, then we should lend a hand, or shoulder to those in need. I do this not in the name of god(s) but in the name of GOOD...of RIGHT.

I believe the church has taken a book of fairy tales used way in the beginning of time, before humans had scientificly proven explanations for changes in weather and natural occurrences, etc and USED it to create fear and generate the almighty [Dollar] within their walls and their pockets.

"I believe in every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows."
(Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

As an adult, I have been accused of being a Satanist, because, "if [I] am not with god, I MUST be with Him." And it can really hurt, when people who you feel KNOW you and what is in your heart, and what you give to others of yourself, and what you stand for, tell you that no matter what you do in your life, you will burn in hell because you don't do what you do in the name of god(s).

  • "Maybe this world is another planet's hell."
    Aldous Huxley

  • "The notion that faith in Christ is to be rewarded by an eternity of bliss, while a dependence upon reason, observation, and experience merits everlasting pain, is too absurd for refutation, and can be relieved only by that unhappy mixture of insanity and ignorance called 'faith.'"
    Robert G. Ingersoll

  • "Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to the garage makes you a car."
    Laurence J. Peter

  • "The worst moment for the atheist is when he is really thankful and has nobody to thank."
    Dante Rossetti

  • "That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy."
    Jorge Luis Borge

  • "We all have possibilities we don't know about. We can do things we don't even dream we can do." Dale Carnegie

  • "Several thousand years ago, a small tribe of ignorant near-savages wrote various collections of myths, wild tales, lies, and gibberish. Over the centuries, these stories were embroidered, garbled, mutilated, and torn into small pieces that were then repeatedly shuffled. Finally, this material was badly translated into several languages successively. The resultant text, creationists feel, is the best guide to this complex and technical subject."
