Detention without charge

I guess everyone know's that the US has been holding people in Guantanamo Bay without charge for over two years now. I agree that the government should be able to prevent attacks on its country. I also accept that at times this may require the holding of peoples without charge to to allow investigations to be completed while protecting the country.

Although even limited detention is subject to abuse as appears to be occurring in Australia, there have been raids on houses where people have been threatened with detention if they don't do as told, and under these powers such threats may be carried out. Recent investigations into Willie Brigitte have had people detained with essentially no representation ASIO Laws threat the freedom Source Sydney Morning Herald

I was sorry to hear that the UK also has such laws and that the UK have their own Guantanamo Bay Source BBC The governments appear to be going crazy and the people apparently too scared to fight for rights. I guess they feel jail no matter how cruel is better than the threat of terrorism.

It is heartfelt to hear that at last some reason is coming to the surface now that the US courts disagree with Bush over detention Source CNN. Hopefully this will lead to an improvement in matters and a start on the path to stopping terrorism by dealing with the cause rather than the symptoms.
