Lite n Easy

I've started a formal diet this week through Lite n Easy. After all the stressful times I've been having over the last few years, I've stacked on the weight. Stress eating can only last for so long.

Anyway this diet is amazing, the food is provided and you just heat and eat. The breakfasts and lunches are larger that what I used to eat. I guess the idea is to get the food into you in the morning and you can use it during the day, while the dinner is smaller. The weeks worth of food all arrives in a esky and all the bread stuff goes into the freezer with dinners. The other breakfast and lunch things go into the fridge.

The main thing I'm getting out of it is the encouragement to walk. Spending all this money on food really make you want to exercise, otherwise you'll have wasted the money. I bought a pedometer to count the steps and work out how far I'm walking. The plan is to walk 10,000 steps a day. I'll hopefully let you know how much weight I've lost later on.

Stage 2 water restrictions

While the overall level f water holdings is going down, the ACT Government has decided ease water restrictions to level 2 from the 1st of March. This is because we are moving out of summer and ACTEW is able to make better use of the other dams. But it is estimated that we wil stay at stage 2 until next summer.

Weapons of mass destruction

I've found the weapons of mass destruction, all we had to do was look in Google. All we George Bush needed to do was a Google, not invade Iraq.

Just click the link and Google will do a I'm feeling lucky search for weapons of mass destruction, or you can do it yourself.

Physical fitness program

NOTICE

This department requires no physical fitness program.

Everyone get enough exercise jumping to conclusions, flying off the handle, running down the boss, knifing friends in the back, dodging responsibility, and pushing their luck.

CSS Skin changes

One benefit of using a pure CSS design is that live real time skin changes can be made using only CSS and Javascript. As you will see along the side of my pages I list the current skin design. Below is a list of alternative skin designs, and clicking them changes the design, and sometimes the layout of the pages, in an instant. No need to refresh because all of the layout information is contained in CSS files the html can remain the same and does not try to fight with the CSS. No padding images, no forced tables.

I find that using CSS to do the formatting also makes site updates much easier as I don't have to remember how or where I achieved design ideas. It's all in the CSS. I even have a global CSS file that applies to all layout and includes the basics to img Border set to 0. No need to key it in, no need to have a program default the property. To create a common CSS just add the CSS tag but don't include the title. Mine is

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="common/common.css">

The Empire Strikes Back: Extra-Special Edition

INT: BESPIN GANTRY - MOMENTS LATER:

A furious lightsabre duel is underway. DARTH VADER is backing LUKE SKYWALKER towards the end of the gantry. A quick move by Vader chops off Luke's hand! It goes spinning off into the ventilation shaft. Luke backs away. He looks around, but realizes there's nowhere to go but straight down.

Darth Vader: Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father.

Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!

Darth Vader: No... I am your father!

Luke: No, it's not true! It's impossible.

Darth Vader: Search your feelings... you know it to be true...

Luke: NO!

Darth Vader: Yes, it is true... and you know what else? You know that brass droid of yours?

Luke: Threepio?

Darth Vader: Yes... Threepio... I built him... when I was 7 years old...

Rydges Cronulla Beach

Rydges Cronulla BeachRydges Cronulla Beach is located right on the beach overlooking Gunnamatta Bay. The hotel has a tropical style, to it, such as bamboo furniture and natural pattern prints on furnishings. I again went to this hotel to install an accounting system in the late 1990's and the one thing that sticks in my mind was waking up and having the the sunrise over the ocean as the view outside my window, it was spectacular. The hotel has a restaurant with outside dining and a bar. It was very relaxing.

The Lord Of The Rings 2: The Two Towers

The Lord Of The Rings 2: The Two TowersWell it is taking longer than expected but I have finished the Two Towers. This book is an excellent read, I'm just having trouble finding time to read. The book is you classic middle book, so the ending leaves the characters in a dark and impossible position from which they need to save Middle Earth. Having formed the fellowship and started the quest, in the Two Towers the fellow is broken up and many paths are taken. With Gandalf have to catch up from fighting the Balrog and Merry and Pippin meeting the Ents and storming the White Tower to Frodo and Sam meeting Gollum and getting into Moria. Once again the attention to detail is incredible The descriptions of the landscapes and the pointing out of irrelevant details just makes you feel like you have been in middle earth all the time.

Java script Includes

One technique, that I have used which avoids the need for PHP, ASP etc, is to use Java script for client side includes.

This technique does has some advantages over server side includes. The main benefit is that a browser can cache the javascript and possibly save downloading it again when looking at another page. It terms of the html it also increase the content ratio of the page as side bars and information areas are reduced to one liners.

I have also heard that browsers for vision impaired people prefer Java script for sidebars, but not navigation. This is because when have a web page read out aloud it wastes a lot of time to hear the weather somewhere else or what some one is reading, when fully sighted people can happily ignore that information if they want.

There are websites that can help you automate the Client side include

My Web Software

The main problem with running a web site is updating the content, while maintaining a consistent layout. This is usually achieved using software that updates your pages. As I run a blog and try to provide more static content through a web site, I use two tools.

For my blog, I use an small but amazing piece of software called 'Blog'. This is Care-ware published by Fahim A. Farook. It is amazing because is bundles everything required for offline composing and online uploading is a program that can be moved/copies with no implications.

We've always done it that way

Does the statement, "We've always done it that way" ring any bells...? The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That's an exceedingly odd number.

Why was that gauge used? Because that's the way they built them in England, and English expatriates built the US Railroads.

Why did the English build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used.

Why did "they" use that gauge then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing? More...

Rydges Eagle Hawk

Photo of Rydges Eagle Hawk Rydges Eagle Hawk is a Resort Hotel just outside Canberra. The hotel is a great place to have a planning retreat or a 'local' getaway. About 10 to 15 minutes from the city it is far enough out that won't be disturbed, but close enough that you don't spend all day getting there. The hotel is spread out over a large area and the rooms are grouped into small clusters. This is another hotel that I installed an accounting system for many years ago, I haven't actually stayed their but I have been to a few business conferences their.

An Australian Dingo on Safari

An Australian goes on a safari in Africa, taking his pet dingo along for company. One day, the dingo starts chasing butterflies and before long discovers that he is lost. Wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the obvious intention of having lunch. The dingo thinks, "Geez, I'm in deep trouble now!" Then he noticed some bones on the ground close by, and immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the dingo exclaims loudly, "Bugger me dead, that was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here?" Hearing this, the leopard halts his attack in mid stride, as a look of terror comes over him, and slinks away into the trees. "Whew," says the leopard. "That was close. That dingo nearly had me."

Essential Questions for visiting Australia

These questions about Australia are from potential visitors. They were posted on an Australian Tourism Website and the answers are the actual responses by the website officials.

Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia? I have never seen it rain on TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK)

A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die.

Q: Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA)

A: Depends how much you've been drinking

Linux Firewall

Well I have to say that I must be getting close to be classified as a fully fledged nerd. I have my own web site. I have my own domain. The number of computers I run at home is now up to four. I have one workstation/server as our main computer, I then have another workstation if it. I look after the standalone in my son's bedroom. All these run Win. Now I have fourth that is my firewall running Coyote Linux. I'll admit it is a fully complied distribution and it all runs off a floppy, but I need to play with CDROM drives to run Smooth Wall.

Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

This movie is the sequel of the movie based on the computer game all of the same name. Angelina Jolie again stars as Lara Croft and like to computer game it would appear that the size of her breasts is decreasing as the number of titles progresses. Anyway Lara is again called on to save the world, although this time MI6 is doing the asking. It would appear someone has found the original Pandora's' Box and want to sell it as a weapon. As usual the action stunts are out of this world and over the top, although this time there seems to be a lot of 'travel' time. We watch the characters get from place to place. This appear to be used to insert some stunts, but really leaves the story telling little room to work. If you are happy with high level action this is a must see.

The Spires At Leura

Photo of The Spires at Leura

This weekend I stayed at The Spires at Leura in the Blue Mountains. This a new apartment hotel in Leura and my family stayed in a one bedroom apartment. The building is quite secure, with security doors for the undercover parking, operated but a remote with the hotel keys. The foyer to the apartment building is also locked with an intercom to let guests in with, and our room was a two room layout, each with their own keys.
