My Web Software

The main problem with running a web site is updating the content, while maintaining a consistent layout. This is usually achieved using software that updates your pages. As I run a blog and try to provide more static content through a web site, I use two tools.

For my blog, I use an small but amazing piece of software called 'Blog'. This is Care-ware published by Fahim A. Farook. It is amazing because is bundles everything required for offline composing and online uploading is a program that can be moved/copies with no implications.

It supports multiple users, via email, you can update via email. Blog has real time spell checking with multiple language support, including British and Australian. Blog will publish your blog with FTP uploads to multiple sites, and you can have multiple blogs. It supports html templates and these are easily converted from popular blog skin sites. The same blog can have different templates (look and feel) it has one click HTML preview, entries can be placed into multiple categories, you can have weekly or monthly archives. He is currently working on an update to include a WYSIWYG editor, it will also Ping blog update sites. My only gripe's most of which are on the v8.0 wish list are, individual/ daily archive pages, category names tags.

For my web site Is use a modified version of the ALA:Simple Content Management which is a script based text combine and replace toll built with REBOL. I include my Blog template in this so that any updates to the main template then flow through to the blog template. So adding a new interest, is then followed by a Simple content refresh, and FTP upload. Then I republish all pages with Blog all of about 10 mins, most of it is waiting for logins to be processed and files uploaded.
